Need Help With Career Road to Riot!!!

So here's a little introduction,

I'm Adyn Glowniak and I love everything Riot does. From the fantastic and enthralling game to the brittle bones of development. I'm a high school student at a decent high school in Nevada right now and my dream is to have a career within League of Legends, whether it's being an LCS pro or working for the actual company (which would be just as awesome)

Now, I can't do an internship due to me being across a state and well I'm just interested in two (very) different fields Riot Games hires in and needs personnel for, which would be you Esports department and their Narrative department (whatever concerns the lore of LoL).

I basically just want someone to let me know what I need to do right now in the stages of high school and what classes/courses I should look into for college or anything to get there. I want to either be a shout caster, somewhere in the Esports department, probably event coordinator and last but not least part of the narrative team, to help shape the lore of League. I love this game so much, it's my passion and love. Anyone help!

While I cannot speak on behalf of Riot naturally, I would suggest to follow what you love doing the most. And if you're like me that's probably the least helpful thing to say because there's just so much you want to do and get done.

So here's my actual suggestion: blaze your own path first. What I mean by that is don't look at a job at Riot as the pinnacle of what you want to do. To paraphrase from a Rioter "Riot does not hire people wanting to become Rioters, we hire people who are already Rioters". Make projects, make friends and most importantly have fun doing it and if all goes well you'll have so much swag to layer on your portfolio you'd be a shooin for the job.

And I can help you out on a few things to get you started, if you haven't found them already.

EveryDay Fiction

This awesome site let's you submit <1000 word short stories for the possibility of site-side publication and you can even get paid doing it! (A measly $5 per story, but hey it's money!) Of course the most valuable thing is that you can get feedback and ratings from other readers, as well as check out the styles and stories of others.

College of Casting

This facebook group is a great resource for anyone aspiring to shoutcast. While primarily meant to organize events you can find some good tips and people to practice with you if you dig hard enough!

Inside Riot (LinkedIn)

You mentioned the internship so I wouldn't be surprised if you stumbled on this already but just in case this page boasts all the current internship questions/answers as well as access to the very questions you're asking now from not only Rioters but from others in the industry. Not to mention LinkedIn itself being a great resource!

In general, get stuff you can brag about! Start a LoL club, publish a fiction piece (while it sounds intimidating it's not that bad actually!), and/or shoutcast a few tournaments. Maybe even start a stream? Beyond that I wish you luck and seriously, remember to make sure you're enjoying yourself! ^_^

Well it looks like you've at least kinda narrowed it down. Not bad for still being in high school!

Sir pretty much boiled it down in saying "blaze your own path first." I tell this to students all the time, but you won't be successful in anything until you at least go out there and do it. I know this may be doing a lot of injustice to what that actually means, but it couldn't be any more true.

Experiment with each of the things you want to do.

Want to be a professional LoL player? See how you work up in ranked. Looking to do event coordination? Try to host a small event through a club at your school. Interested in shoutcasting? Cast until your heart is content!

You'll find that you get more out of creating the experience for yourself rather than waiting for someone else to do it for you.

If you do end up going the event coordination route, get in touch with me sometime.

Keep your English grades up, I think that's the only pre-req for uni broadcasting courses (in Canada at least)
