Sooo I am trying to run league on slow internet with a Windows Vista desktop. (If you want to know my internet speed tell me how to find out. I am using wifi) Anyway, this Christmas I have 200$ to get a new computer- either Laptop or Desktop. I am aiming for a laptop so I can take it with me and use better internets. So my problem is that I dont know anything about computers. My mom told me that she wants to get it through BestBuy because she is obsessed with BestBuy, and that I have 200$ or less to get it. I really only plan to use it to run League of Legends and maaaybe watch netflix sometimes so help? Please? PLEASE?!! [slayer-jinx-catface] I just posted this in Help & Support but then I felt r%%%%%ed because I dont actually want Riot to answer, I want other gamers duuurrrr~

First, plleeeeease try and convince her to buy something from a decent electronics store. Best Buy marks everything up way past a reasonable price, and I question their quality control from personal experience. Fry's is a good step up, and there's probably some local specialty shops around unless you're out in the country.

Second, well, 200 bucks isn't much. I'm trying to find a good SSD for around that price before Cyber Monday sales end, that's one bloody part. Can you run League on 200 bucks? Sure. You could probably run it on smartphones these days if you could install PC OS's on them. But I can't suggest you get a laptop for that, a 200 dollar laptop from best buy probably wont last you a year before the hamster running the thing dies. If budget is that restrictive, your best bet in my opinion is buying some stock desktop parts and putting it together yourself.

You can use that site to determine the best current Cost for Performance parts available at any time. So long as you go down the line, everything should work as a whole, zig zagging through could cause some problems but I doubt that's in your budget anyways. As for how to put it together, watch a guide on youtube, there's hundreds of them, it's really easy once you understand how the motherboard works.

If you simply must get a laptop... Save some money. Maybe there is a good 200 dollar laptop out there, or maybe some kind soul will sell you theirs for that price, but... Yeah. Good luck on that front. Just don't expect BestBuy to give you an honest deal, "best on the market" yeah bloody right.

This will help you find out what your internet speed is. Select Chicago for your city, wait for it to run the test, and it will then tell you your ping between your location and the servers. As for a computer, Laptops typically tend to be more expensive and offer less performance than a desktop, but you can bring a laptop anywhere you go. However, if you don't leave home much, a desktop is much better. This should help you figure out what you need as far as a computer goes. If you can, try for a bigger budget, as $200 is not going to get a computer that can both run LoL and deliver a pleasant gaming experience. You will have REALLY poor frames per second if you just get the cheapest computer you can find. I would try finding ways to expand your budget, and also aim for a computer with a dedicated graphics card (basically a circuit board dedicated to processing what you see on the monitor).
