i was wondering for those of us out there who hate exercise. what about running? i myself hate going to the gym, i feel awkward, insecure and that everyone is judging me the only thing i enjoy is getting on the treadmill. so is just running outside a viable option to trying to get in shape or be healthy. any advice is appreciated.summoner 6

well it would help with Stamina and legs, but you need to do equal amount of work on your mid/upper body as well, so while its nice to get running down remember to work other places on your body as well. you dont need to go to the gym for all that! if anything buy some weights!

Cardio is the best way to get in shape. Doesn't matter if its running, swimming, rowing, power walking, etc. Just do it. The most important thing is that you are consistent. Every day you have to do something physical. It will suck at first but eventually you will look forward to it. You need to find what motivates you to get out there every day. I find that music really helps me push me when I run.

Also, diet plays a huge role, sometimes even more than your exercise. I've had huge success reducing my sugar intake and eating smaller meals 5-6 times a day (over 40 pounds lost in the last 6 months.) Sugary beverages are death and I encourage you to avoid them at all costs.

Just be honest with yourself. You know what's healthy and what you limits are. People fail at losing weight because they cheat or they are dishonest with themselves in another way.

And who gives a fuck what people at the gym think? Never let another person define who you are or who you should be.

I've struggled with my weight as well, still am and probably always will - I just love food too much... but what I've been doing is adding exercize into my daily life. I've tried doing things like running, rollerblading, exercize routines... I always eventually overdo it, hurt myself, have to miss 'a day' which turns into 2, then 3, then I just never go back.

So what I've started doing is getting off 2-3 stops early on the bus and walking to work from there(works out to about a ~10 minute walk all told). Taking stairs in stead of elevators as much as I can. It hasn't had a huge impact on my weight just yet, but I FEEL a lot less out of shape, which is far more important, in my eyes. How you feel matters more than how you look.

But as the person above said, if you just want to 'get in shape' cardio is indeed what you need. Cardio and dietary changes.
