[Player Behaviour] Muting a player should have consequences for them
Sometimes, when the early game goes bad, there's this one player who will either ironically say "gg" and keep throwing negative remarks or will outright start flaming.
This will have detrimental effect on the team's strength, of course. Some people will feel worse, even play worse. The possible outcomes branch:
- Comeback. Early game gets compensated by good teamplay, despite the flame.
- The flamer shuts up. Mid game is peaceful.
- Victory - Everyone is happy and forgets about the flamer making them feel bad in the first 10 minutes.
- Defeat - The flamer is likely to resume their abuse and the other players will remember to report him if he was really toxic.
- The flamer continues to be negative despite team making it almost even in objectives.
- Victory - If the toxic player was really rude up until the end, his teammates will report him - but they're less likely to do so, as they've won the game and aren't as upset.
- Defeat - The toxic factor is probably the reason for the low team morale that led to a throw, and other players will most likely use the report button.
- Stomp. After bad early game, nobody is capable of making a comeback. Toxicity ensues.
##Deal With It Verbally assaulted player has the following options:
- Convince the assailants to cease their abuse (WRONG, most people who try this end up making things worse)
- Not give a shit and hope the other victims of harassment will do the same
- Passive-aggresive actions such as not helping the bully in need (I wish I could say I've never done that)
- Full-blown intentional throw to make sure the flamer doesn't win (deserving a punishment just as bad as verbal abuse)
- Mute button
And here's the problem: sometimes the victims of abuse want to forget about the bad experience right away. That's why they use mute function, that's why I personally found myself escaping from the post-game lobby right away after some games, only to think back a bit later and regret not reporting people who flamed me when I performed poorly. Alll in all, in many scenarios listed above, the flamer doesn't get reported and is free to carry on with his negative attitude in other games.
If the victim runs away from the post-game screen, the toxic player will not get any repercussion for his behaviour, Pressing the "Report" button is a judgemental action and sort of an agressive response. I don't think such model (brewing all the pain to release the "justice" after game) is a good solution.
##Suggestion
- Getting muted by a large amount of players should result in chat restrictions
- In place of the current chat restriction system, Reports should disable the ranked queue if the Tribunal votes for the first degree of punishment
- This could go as far as sending a player to a few Co-Op vs AI games. Or Dominion.
Benefits of such change: chat restrictions are imposed on flamers right away and reports become more focused on other cases.
Also, if LoL was ever to implement voice chat (which I am strongly in favour of) similar easy system could fix all potential abuse: if a player's voice is muted by many people, they should be automatically muted in all of their games. This would send a clear message to people - be nice to others or they won't listen to you. Literally.
