@ Riot and @LoL Players: Leaver Buster Good Or Bad?

The Leave Buster is intended to resolve issues. I understand a few reasons for why it exists. It is in some ways good and bad in other ways. How practical and ethical is it?

Good:

1)I can see that it is designed to be an automaton and handle cases that otherwise would never see any resolution due to the sheer number of players and the impossibility of Riot Staff reviewing them all.

2)Having bans ensures the issue is eliminated for the period of the ban. It also acts as a negative reinforcement for certain behavior. Therefore possibly preventing future occurrence

  1. Helps to keep the gaming experience enjoyable for those that are not banned.

4)There are other reasons for why Leave Buster is good, please add to this list and share your opinion.

BAD:

  1. Does not differentiate between intentional behavior and events out of the users control. Both categories are penalized in the same way. There are always reasons for AFK or Game leaving. Some of these are under the players control and others are not. To apply the same punishment to both cases is unethical. These cases need to have different punishments.

  2. Not allowing appeals. Any system with no appeals is an unethical practice. The U.S. Court System allows appeals and it is based on Justice. There are many other reasons why not having appeals is unfair. If you want to understand why there should be an appeals process I have provided a U.S. Government link:

http://www.uscourts.gov/FederalCourts/UnderstandingtheFederalCourts/HowCourtsWork/TheAppealsProcess.aspx

  1. As a business practice it is a very good method of losing income. If you have a player that has spent $300 on this game, they are more than likely going to spend more later. However when you ban players with no appeal you have just lost a source of income

4)There are other reasons for why Leave Buster is Bad, please add to this list and share your opinion.

I have listed some reasons for both positions on this system and I would like to see feedback from the community and the rioters. What are your opinions on the Leave Buster System?

Wall of text, and this is imo so take what you will from it

hmm well I think Leaver Buster is fine.

To me I think that you only get banned by Leaver Buster for leaving a lot of games fairly often makes sense. I think the average player is not quitting out of a game often, and those that do are the ragers/trolls we come across. Which should be punished for.

Now granted someone may have internet issues or their computer crashes from time to time. Heck this has happened to me a few times over the past almost 2 years since I have started playing and probably the same with nearly everyone else at some point. Or just something irl comes up forcing the player to quit.

But from what I have understood about Leaver Buster is that it strikes when people have a high amount of disconnects for relatively few games. So asides from the trolls/ragers who quit games and leave you hanging, the other factors that could cause a person to dc a lot should be taken into consideration by the player before playing LoL.

Like if you know your internet sucks or your computer crashes while playing LoL, then stop playing! Chances are the problem won't be magically fixed by itself. So make sure your equipment/gear is up to date and capable of handling LoL. Try running a custom game by yourself make sure you can complete it without crashing. If all is well then great! Hop into queue and play with people. If not then don't play as Leaver Buster will not like your growing dc count.

So yeah, that is my thoughts about Leaver Buster. Thanks for reading.

It's fine, and currently seems to be working well as intended.

  1. As one of the players losing a game because somebody left, I couldn't care less why they left. Plus, it takes more than a few leaves for the system to punish you. If you're having continuous enough issues with connecting or dropping from games for long enough for leaver buster to flag you and punish you, you probably should have stopped trying, and spent some time figuring out what was wrong with your connection/computer/client

  2. Playing league is a privilege, not a right. Also, see #1 for why appeals would be useless. Did you or did you not repeatedly leave your team in a 4v5 situation? What's that? Yes? Okay, appeal denied. And in a practical sense, the appeal process would likely take longer than your suspension anyhow.

  3. Again, the other players in the game don't care about how much money the leaver has spent on the game. Plus, to my knowledge, the automated system will never issue a permaban by itself. It'll only give temporary suspensions. Riot reviews and approves all permanent bans given out.

  4. Nothing else, because the system is working quite well, imo.

Right off the bat, I can certainly disapprove your BAD points. The first BAD point you made is the outside influences that forces you to quit the game/game crash. Let me say this, Riot does not ban you for 1 leave from those. What are the chances that you get those anyway, 1 in 1000? Now if you say it happens a lot frequently then you need to look back into your situation. If you are playing when your parents do not allow, or when you play when your internet is bad. All those things are avoidable.

I got nothing to say about appealing. Certainly you can submit a ticket to Riot support and they will sort it out for sure if you have enough appropriate evidences.

LoL has a player base of millions, do you think that banning one or two persons will hurt their sale that bad or at all? And guess what, they decided to lose their income rather than have toxic players in their game, it's something you should compliment on.

LeaverBuster works as intended.

Refuting your bad points:

  1. There is no way to determine if a person has left unintentionally/intentionally. However, if a person is having problems, usually they'll get it fixed soon. I was having some graphic card problems, causing my computer to freeze and to drop a few games - it literally takes quite a few games/instances (also based on the average you play) for you to get banned. If it's occurring that frequently, it is something you can fix. If it isn't something you can fix, you shouldn't be playing anyway (because wouldn't it be frustrating to drop that often?).

  2. Appeals can be made via submitting a ticket. So you're just wrong here.

  3. See #2. Also, there is the counterargument: "If I'm a paying customer, I'm going to stop spending money to play a game with people who drop all the time."

TBH LeaverBuster should have been restricted to ranked only not normals or at least ban someone from playing ranked for X days depending on the # of normal leaves
