Riot's options for LCS balancing.

What champions are too good for LCS? well right now it's Shen Azir andRekSai (at the least). They kit's give too much to not be constantly picked in LCS. so riot wants to combat this, especially with their massive esports event coming up very soon. They have two real options.

>option one

Buff other champions. IF you have trouble with LCS diversity, why not just buff other champions to LCS level? This would be disastrous outside of LCS(or at least in the communities majority opinion). Tweaks to champions to make them more LCS viable might make them broken in live servers, this is not good for the game(in some people's opinion). If riven got huge buffs to her abilities to make her a strong toplaner in LCS, then she would be a complete monster in live and destroy game after game. This doesn't seem like a great option.

>option two

nerf the largest competitors. Think the rek sai, azir, and shen nerfs. If a champion is constantly picked because they are the dominant champion, then they should be nerfed to allow room for other champions to be picked. This is a terrible idea and an affront to game balance (in some people's opinion), but it's the only thing riot really can do. So they choose to do it.

so yes, it does suck that riot is nerfing the shit out of some champions but it sucks even more to see those same champions in every game of LCS (if they aren't banned).

Who cares about the LCS?

Let the LCS people (who are less than 1% of actual gamers) abuse specific champs.

Only re-balance champs if they become a clear problem for the rest of us mortals. I've rarely ever seen a Shen destroy anyone at my elo. When tons of people can pick him up and with a few weeks of practice completely destroy... then we can worry about balance issues.

Who cares what a few try-hards in the LCS abuse? Why should that be the standard for balancing?

You don't regulate what the average Joe (100% of the community) can do with a computer because 1% of the population can perform crazy hacks.

The problem with buffing weaker champs is that it allows so much more room for unforseen breakage than nerfs do. Buffing 10 underplayed junglers to Rek'sai level requires a ton of design work and there's a very good chance that one of those buffs ends up being a bit overtuned or breaks the game with a certain item combo. Nerfing only 1-2 champs is much less likely to break balance than buffing 10.
