Requesting a boards interview with Riot
**tl;dr ** I'm asking the community to up-vote this thread so that I can get a Lead Programmer (or a programmer who is the manager of a programming team) at Riot to answer some questions for a school assignment. Anyone who comments will be in the draw for a mystery skin which I will draw once/if I get a response.
Hi everyone,
I'm currently in my second year in Computer Science and am taking a Managerial Skills Development class to fulfill the Business Minor portion of my education. Part of this class is to develop a plan to get to your ideal job in 5-10 years. I have selected lead programmer of a gaming company as my goal and am required to interview someone who currently has this position. I've been reaching out to many people with literally no response in the last week, so I thought I'd take a chance on the boards! I guess programmers in gaming are hard to get a hold of...
Anyways, since I know there are a lot of programmers on the boards, I'm more than happy to hear any programming career advice. For the sake of the report, however, I require someone who manages a team and is part of a reputable/known (google-able) company. If you manage a team and are from a reputable company, I could use your interview for my report as well. If you want to just give some advice, a simple reply would suffice.
@Riot, if you would prefer to answer these less publicly, please send me an email. I will only use your response for my report and will not post publicly if you do not wish for me to do so.
I've tried to make the questions universal enough so that someone outside Riot could answer as well. Pardon the redundancy. These questions are just questions I'm personally interested in. I don't have a list of questions I must ask to fulfill requirements of the report. Just FYI.
Basic information:
Name (in-game name would be fine if from Riot): Company: Position: How long have you held this position? How large is the team that you manage?
Questions:
-
What career path did you take to get to where you are now?
-
Everyone seems to have their own preferred computer language they use and will argue that their language is the best. It's hard to determine which languages are practical in the real world and which ones are just someone's preference. What are some of the languages that stand out on a Resume?
-
What **really **stands out on a Resume?
-
How are you doing today?
-
What is an important skill to have outside of coding/technology?
-
I know that Lead Programmers require quite a bit of experience. What past experienced helped you the most with your current position?
-
What do you do in the average day?
-
What coding-related belief did you have in school that turned out to be completely wrong in the real world? (Example: I must know assembly before graduating).
-
Do you have any other tips/comments for a programmer who is about 2 years away from graduating?
Thanks all I can think of right now... I have class/work all day today and might edit some more questions this evening.
Thank you everyone for your time!
