A helpful thought for Riot to mitigate AFK's in Ranked Games (Promotions)

Hello everyone,

Just recently I had played a ranked game hoping to win my promotion. Sadly my support had to leave because his brother broke his arm and the "real world" needed him. Have you ever played a game where your hopes were to rank up, but you land so close yet so far? I have an idea for Riot to mitigate the loss that was imposed on you and your teammates due to unfortunate AFK's and Feeders. The red font on the persons name showing that they left they game is a tell-tale sign that they were AFK. I have an idea where riot does not count your **Promo** games as a loss, but they do however count_ normal ranked games_ as a loss.

Here is the theory behind my idea; if a person is losing a ranked promo game due to an AFK, that player specifically should receive compensation. Why? It is especially hard to climb from bronze tier through silver tier, not saying that climbing at later levels is easier, but there are also a lot of smurfs playing on low Elo accounts for the fun of it. There has been times where I would be winning a bronze game due to someone else on my team carrying really hard. But all of a sudden that person just loses on purpose to "keep their Elo at this level". Now if you are in a promotion games at bronze or silver tier, I do not think that you should lose a game out of the three because it wasn't even a fair contest to begin with due to the AFK. I think riot should incorporate this loss prevention solely to people in their promotion games with an AFKer. Well there are problems that come with that; one being that a duo que could purposely AFK to prevent a loss, and if we included this mechanic to people who aren't in their promotion games they can get other people to AFK to prevent the loss. This is why i think it is imperative that this mechanic is SOLELY / ONLY offered to those in their promotion games with an AFK that has been inactive for more than 10 minutes. Why 10 minutes? This goes back to where a duo que could purposely AFK to prevent the loss. In this game there is a big issue around "what if" issues. What if i flashed? What if i engaged before they grouped? What if i didn't AFK for 10 minutes to prevent the loss? could we have won the game? 10+ minutes of AFK should be enough to indicate that the person has actually been away and had contributed little effort reconnecting.

As ranked games should be taken seriously, their **gold and damage to champions should be looked at** to see if the person was actually contributing to the game, and then left to purposely impose an AFK loss prevention. 10 minutes should be enough to close out a game for the side without the AFK, and therefore it would be pointless to AFK for 10 minutes to impose a loss prevention when you could've been fishing for a surrender vote or try to actually find a tilt point on the opposing team where they throw and end up losing the game. On top of this, to prevent people purposely AFKing for a loss prevention on promotional games, I think that an account ban from a week up to a month is a fair punishment for anyone trying to do this,(as this would cause an influx of players ranking up). If they were not trying to purposely invoke a loss prevention, there is always the Help & Support section where players can send a detailed ticket to try and get their bans shortened or entirely lifted.

Thank you for your time, and see you on the rift!

The main issue is that right now, AFKs impact your enjoyment of the game but they do not compromise the integrity of the ranked ladder. You say that it is especially difficult to climb through Bronze and Silver but is that really true? You don't encounter as many AFKs as you think you do; it's just that they are very memorable because it's such an unfair game. Even through you sometimes lose (or win) promos because of 4v5s, your division is still accurate if you've played enough games. If you are supposed to be in Silver III, you will win your promos into Silver III even if you have a few instances where an AFK causes you to lose them.

Any change that Riot could make to the AFK system would have the potential to introduce strategic use of AFKs in promos. No matter what safeguards they could put in to try to prevent it or punish people for doing it, it is better if it's not possible at all.
