FFXIV, WoW, GW2, or something else?

So, I can't play League 24/7. I just can't. It tilts me too hard, and I start to burn out after a while. I used to play MMOs before League, but Wildstar died off, and anything else I play has issues.

WoW is just bad now, every class is 2-3 buttons and the fights are next level braindead.

FFXIV is amazing, but the combat is just so slow and simplistic that I actually fall asleep if I play it at night.

GW2 is hands down my favorite MMO gameplay, but there's just nothing to do outside of farming Fractals or mindlessly zerging in WvW.

... is there any other MMO that's fun? Are WoW, FFXIV or GW2 not as bad as they seem to be? I'm just at a loss of what to do. T_T

I personally play guild wars 2 Granted I did pay for the expantion, but when i was a f2p it was still quite a bit of content to do and play around with, the classes are interesting and fun (#necromasterrace) and the characters are generally interesting

also BATTLE KATS Rengar

you could try final fantasy a realm reborn the MMO is rather good and under rated TBH.

other than that if you have a PS4, get Horizion seriously its fantastic.

if you want a challenge and have never played one before get dark souls 3,2,1 or demon souls/bloodbourne, there absolute master pieces

I'm quite enjoying Archeage once again, and it's getting a big patch on June 7th.

But I'm always interested in other MMOs, gonna keep a tab on this thread.

I'd play WoW, but monthly subscriptions are disgraceful

Yeah it would seem not many are developing MMORPGs anymore, which is understandable since the market scenery has changed.

Back in the early 2000s, everyone would be living on the WoW, RO or Everquest or something.

These days, 3 trends I'd notice that people like:

  • Fast - games with shorter length and faster experiences where they get their feed of thrills and leave. You know this because people thought a 30 min per game match is too long and most of the games most people play are competitive FPS.
  • On-and-off - wax on, wax off, no strings attached. While that doesn't mean people don't like game progression anymore, but they like it "external". Many don't like it when there is something that makes them dependent on the other guys, this is also mostly why today's MMOs are "singleplayer games where you play it with a bunch of people" atm. This is also why people drool over self-synergy/1-man-team characters like Lee Sin in team games like LoL.
  • Build/sandbox - many people now demand games that can allow them some sort of self expression and higher player agency. This makes it hard to develop for MMORPGs, mostly due to the aspect of budget, and trying to balance between the rules required to be a MMORPG and the freedoms required to be a sandbox.

This also doesn't help when people shift between games way too quick, given how many games are released nowadays and that people are growing increasingly less attached to their games it's only inevitable. And so investing MMORPGs become unreliable as a whole.

And so people don't develop MMORPGs now. That's sad aye.
