[we have your backs]

So the video Riot posted about 20 hours ago. I just barely watched it. I know it's meant to inspire people to pursue their dreams and also to highlight some of the players in the upcoming events, but there's an opinion I'd like to share that I have, but was made clear to me during that video.

"League of Legends community, me, everyone, all of these gamers, we have your backs, that's who we are, you know?"

That's a pretty statement, but the thing is, from my standpoint, it's never been true.

The holidays (christmas, thanksgiving, new years, etc.), birthdays, and any other times where I've been alone, literally and emotionally, where all I wanted to do was talk to people. I reached out to this community, and I wasn't received or accepted with any sort of friendly behavior. My goals and dreams that I wanted to share with people fell on deaf ears. Every single time where I needed someone. Every single time where I wish someone had my back.

I've been alone.

I consider myself an Outcast because from the way I'm treated, it has to be true. I'm not welcome anywhere, much less the League of Legends community, I still play because I enjoy it, it's fun, the game is fun. I've made mistakes and been on the receiving end of mistakes.

However, I will not for for one second pretend that the league of legends community has ever had my back, because during the times where that would have mattered, it was silent and cold to me.

That's just my opinion though.

A good leader is someone who can sell poison as the greatest cure to mankind. A good leader will charm, cheat, manipulate and straight-out lie to convince people that whatever flows out their lips is gospel and that you should be ashamed for not believing in it. But a good leader doesn't have to be a good person. Companies love good leaders, for they bring great profit. However, companies dread good people for those incur the greatest losses. A company lead by good people is a short-lived one. That's because a company lead by good people won't sell poison. Riot may have started out as a company run by good people, but as time passed and they grew, the costs grew as well and profit dropped. Unfortunately, then they got bought by a company that mainly deals in poison. So they were left with a choice to make: be a good person or be a good leader.

You are indeed one in a million. But so am i and so are the rest of the million. And we are nothing to each other and to the company.

I can't care about you because i don't know you. And the company can't care about you because they need to be good leaders. And good leaders only deal with quantifiable values. :)

Yep, it's an empty statement. It seems to apply more to the community outside of the game, where people are more competitive than anything. People want to win, y'know? The number of truly positive players who can make every game enjoyable despite their personal hardships is very slim, the rest of the playerbase is filled with everyday people, many of which are suffering just as you (and I once) have. It's much like the real world, where you can't know how someone else is feeling behind their face/screen, and silence seems to be the only easy option.

But hey, there's always that one game that restores your faith in the community, where one person decides that silence and hate are the wrong choice. Maybe you just haven't had it yet.

I'm not saying that those people don't exist, but for the overwhelming majority of the times that I've needed to reach out, where I needed anyone at all, nobody was there. So for Riot to say "we got your back" is really just an insult on top of injury.
