How do placement matches even work?
I ended off last season at Bronze 2, after climbing from B5. I went 6/4 in my provisionals, and did fairly well in all of them except one. I'm in Bronze 5 again. Wtf?

Update: My wife just finished her first provisionals ever, went 4/6, and ended up in B2. I don't even. I literally can't even. Especially seeing as I played every single provisional game of hers with her.
It's because your MMR (match making rating) is very low. Queuing with your wife lowered hers because before you play any placements I 'think' you're somewhere in silver at default. I went 8-2 and got Silver 2 last season. But the more frequently you win, the higher your MMR raises. MMR is not visable, for instance at the end of the season even though I skipped Gold 4 to get to Gold 3, I was only seeing plat players on both teams (with an occasional gold 1~) because my MMR was so high. MMR determines where you are placed during provisionals, so since you (Bronze 5) were queued with your wife it lowered her MMR and the 4 victories she did get weren't giving her as much as if she had played solo, however she would have gone against higher rated enemies.
the placement is based on MMR just like above said. even if you climbed to bronze 2 thought out the year you probably had a win rate fairly lower than 50% and your MMR was hardly moving. people seem to think that the 10 placement matches give you some amazing opportunity to get placed in high elo when it doesnt. even if you did better in your placements you probably would still be in b5. Honestly tho this is better for you. now your MMR is fresh and you will be able to climb very fast if you play well and deserve higher rank. At least there is no where to go but up XD
I was gold 5 with terrible MMR and I knew it but I never fell to 0 points and got dmoted, after going 4-6 in placements I was down to silver 4. 2 days later I was already gold 2 after skipping a couple leagues and usually getting 30+ LP per win and having a high win %.
