Where supports are heading.

So, With Soraka, taric, and Janna nerfed out of bot lane, Zilean a non factor as always, and new nerfs to Sona (played so often already), lulu, and Braum. Does anyone else get the feeling that Riot is telling us that the only acceptable support picks are thresh, morgana, and Leona? When I see a champion that is already widely considered unviable already like Sona being nerfed substantially, while Supports that are picked or banned in practically every game are being left alone, I can only assume that Riot is acting preemptively to enforce a specific meta, this case one useing thresh, leona, and morgana. What do you think?
If you agree that riot is acting to enforce a specific bot lane meta, do you think it is for supports only. Recent buffs to lucian combined with nerfs to his strongest counters appearing on the pve seems to imply that either riot wants to solidify lucians place in the current meta or force caitlyn (the only major counter to lucian not seeing an incoming nerf).

Also, if you agree what do you think in the future? Are the braum nerfs the same as the sona nerfs or is braum just being corrected for being to powerful but still accepted by riot as a champ that should be in the meta? Do you expect nami nerfs? As Nami is still viable, unlike Sona who is still getting nerfed despite being very weak already, and as Nami fills a similar role to Sona, do you expect we will see future nerfs for nami as riot continues to force sustain and poke champs out of the support role in favor of aggressive play makeing tank supports?

I think you're misrepresenting Sona's rework as a nerf. I also think that Janna is perfectly viable (just ask Janna Bot, Janna Mechanics, or Ohsomagical).

Pssh, screw the meta. I'll support with who I like. Though I do support as Thresh quite a bit, that doesn't stop me from playing as Soraka, Janna, Sona etc.

Apparently, Nami is getting a small nerf though. Lower base speed and a longer cooldown on her W.

The real issue, and the issue that's always been there, is this: if a sustain champ also has a spell that is useful for waveclear, that champ can make midlane BOOOOOOOOOORING. Solo lane Soraka, Lulu, Janna and the like are more obnoxious than anything, and if you lose to them and get behind you're never farming again.

Now, let's observe the upcoming support changes. Thresh, Braum, Morgana, Nami are currently the four most popular picks in LCS play for support. Leona actually isn't seen as often given how hard Morgana counters her. Nerfs for all four have been said to be coming, with the Nami nerfs being pretty light (who W's every time it's off cool down in lane? You'd be oom immediately).

Lulu Janna and Soraka are off the face of the earth because Riot doesn't know how to nerf a champ out of mid without gutting their support capacity. Alistars doing pretty darn good after his buffs, id say he's a great pickup against the Braum/Thresh/Leona crew personally with his slow and cc shrug and his crazy ult.

Taric needs a rework it's true. I doubt riot will ever care about him as long as he's reliant on a point and click stun , see Sion. Sona rework it's unclear if it's a nerf or a buff.

It's because of the Esports. With Morgana, Thresh, Braum, and Leona seeing so much game time, Riot doesn't want to mess anything up. Just look at season 3 for the reason why. After Worlds I think these guys are going to see some hard balancing and I believe the meta will shift to poke supports.

But I am still waiting for that soraka rework, i mean a buff would also help too.
