Anyone who is tech savy please give advice on what I could improve on this. Please, be aware I haven't been in the market in 7 years./ Any advice you give will probably go in one ear and out the other with excessive links and knowledge for me to bookmark and read etc.

thank you for your time.

edit: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/ToryJJ/saved/nC6dnQ edited the build with some suggestions. Any other suggestions!? thank you for the help!

It looks pretty good. The only thing I would really say is to consider if your current hard drives and disk drives are still usable. Especially with disk drives, even though they are really cheap I basically only use it to install windows. So you can either save a few bucks or bump up your processor or gpu a bit.

Buying seperate computer parts is often more expensive than buying the whole computer. For $1000 I'd recommend buying a $800 i7 pro desktop, and fill in the extra two slots of RAM 8-16GB. If you have enough extra, it's not totally necessary, but you could add an extra graphics card. The only benefit from two graphics cards is the one graphics card will not melt and burn off. There's my advice.

Two specific commercial brands are Alienware and Asus. Something to start off with and get the most you can.

Also, by definition, graphics card > video card, but they're the same in most cases.

P.S. You want something better than i5 vPro quadcore. I have it now and I feel as if it is not enough. XD

I'm not interested in all the small talk along here I'll just be simple with the question you asked.

Everything seems pretty decent except for two things.

  1. Change out the hard drive type to a different brand. WD is really underwhelming.
  2. Drop the Ram to 2x4 and get a better set. With Ram it's best to spend the extra amount for quality over quantity. 8GB is more than plenty.

i edited your partslist a little. check it out! I really think you need an ssd! http://pcpartpicker.com/user/sirsanio/saved/#view=tGPNnQ

if you want some reasoning behind my choices tell me!

That case is REALLY expensive for a mid-tower. I also think you will feel pretty underwhelmed after spending that much money on a GTX 960 and no SSD.

  1. Keep looking for a case. Check out NZXT
  2. Switch to 8 GB RAM
  3. Get a GTX 970/ R9 290X

Example Builds http://pcpartpicker.com/b/2sFdnQ http://pcpartpicker.com/b/pvQV3C Both are under 1,000 USD

people who tell you to build a computer are scammers individual parts actually cost more and by not purchasing prebuilt pc's not only are you wasting more money but you're not supporting the jobs the industry creates
