A Serious Topic Often Overlooked

After spending a little while on the boards I have come to the conclusion that a lot of players aren't coherent of their actions or the seriousness of what is becoming acceptable behavior in overall video game communities.

this is not okay. under any circumstance.

i used to defend the idea that video games do not promote violence and while i still believe this is true i find it harder and harder to prove with the overwhelming negative behaviors im seeing in ALL gaming communities. standing firm on my ground that video games do not promote violence im going to allow the idea that video game communities do influence children and adults. especially celebrities and artists.

if for whatever reason you as a player are finding it hard to control your temper in game or you tend to use excuses as a way to vent your frustrations please consider seeking therapy immediately. this is a game and there are rules to protect you from others, but there is no rule to protect you from yourself. just remember that this IS a GAME.

sometimes venting and raging at a game can be cathartic even if it's not the reason for the frustration in the first place though

I know I've played games that have made me swear and get angry because of other stuff that had happened to me and it just ends up being a good way to unwind the pent up anger before going to solve the actual problem with a clear head. Of course it's not like that for everyone in every situation but that's kinda my point, you can't generalize a topic as complex as human behavior and emotion :)

Games aren't promoting violence, it is human behavior that causes violence. It is natural to be frustrated to lose if you are competitive, but if you want to defend gaming then there is one simple rule: Gaming doesn't cause violence, humans does.

I agree that raging on a game is a part of a phenomenon in which people feel disconnected from their aggression onto others, but this is kind of a chicken/egg scenario, eh? If anything, I'd say social media on the internet in general has been a greater contributer to people's awful attitudes.
