Balance
If this isn't the right board, I'd be happy to move it.
So let me jump right into this. People will disagree with this, and that's fine. I would like to hear all opinions, good or bad. What I wish to speak about is the balance of champions in League of Legends. Yes, I know, a topic everyone talks about 24/7, and I understand that some champions will be unbalanced and that making over 100 champions fair together is near impossible. However, there are champions that I personally feel must be looked at. I play all roles and tons of champs. Some I am better at than others. I am not talking about champions that I just plain suck with, I mean really unfair fights. Things that make matches no longer fun to play. I'm talking about characters with high health and high damage, instant death, unlimited burst, characters that are unkillable.
For starters, Juggarnauts. I guarantee you that 90% of players hate fighting against Garen, Darius, Mordekaiser, and Nasus. These champions do what they are supposed to, which is have lots of health and do lots of damage. Usually, you have to pick between being a tank and being a fighter, but not these guys. They are usually easy to play and hard to fight, which would be okay if it wasn't a little too hard to fight. I feel that many people will disagree with me on this, but this is just a personal view.
When talking about really being unbalanced, I want to talk about even worse champs. Cho'Gath was recently redone and still has a huge amount of health and does burst damage. Once Dr. Mundo activates his ultimate, good luck killing him. Heimerdiner's turrets have quite a bit of health each, prioritize champions, and have a charged blast, in addition to Heimer's already powerful other abilities. Veigar's ultimate is a one-shot click-to-hit nearly unblockable ability with execute damage, also in addition to his other high damage abilities and infinite AP scaling. Teemo can take on nearly anyone and win, even with magic resistance. These champions are abhorrent to fight against.
Do these champions have counters? Yes. Can you beat them with enough skill? Yes. There are people who will say that these champions aren't overpowered or unbalanced, and maybe they aren't. But if they aren't, then there are plenty of champions that are under-powered. Champions like Aurelion Sol are hardly any good in a match. Kindred can be good, but is pretty hard to play. Elise can be killed pretty easily and not have the damage to make up for it. Kha'Zix is pretty squishy, but I don't feel like he outputs the damage to match/
Vel'Koz and Twitch both do huge amounts of damage, but they are both very weak health wise. They can be killed just as fast by nearly anyone. Are they balanced? I'm not too sure honestly, but at least there is a trade off. You don't see anyone playing Kog'Maw, Aurelion Sol, Urgot, Skarner, Nocturne, and a few other champs. Some of those are still pretty decent, and other just fall off and never catch up. Look at Kled, you take his health down, and in a matter of seconds, he has nearly all of it back. Kled can get Skaarl back so easily it's ridiculous. Lux can kill almost anyone she wants with a Q root and and Ultimate, and instead of dealing with her incredibly high damage, Riot gave her even more cooldown on her ult if she kills someone with it.
Riot does try to balance their game, and they do a lot of other stuff as well for league of legends, but there are some champions that have just been sitting around destroying everything and nothing is getting done about them. Play a normal match against a half decent Dr. Mundo in top lane and come back and say it was a fair fight. If you pick the champion to counter him, sure, but having a champion that requires a counter-pick to win against is ridiculous. Counter-picking your lane should provide an edge, not decide the match, that should be left to skill.
TL:DR- I would like just a little more effort to be put into finding the champs that are too strong or too weak and making them more even. No matter which it is, there is an unbalance in league champions. I will not believe that in it's current state, Heimerdinger and Aurelion Sol are on equal footing. I know that Riot is working on other things, but I feel that a look at the balancing of champions needs to happen a little more often. Agree? Disagree? Think I'm a fucking dumbass? Add a comment. I want to know what the community, both normal and high rank, thinks about the level of difference between champions.
