about duo queue mmr

Hi, as most of you know diamond 5 right now is a bit of a mess. With that said I have been looking at solo queue tips to help me slowly get better and adjust. One of the things that came across as I searched for advice was that I should not duo queue because unless you are really good your whole team will be at a disadvantage because the opposing team will have higher MMR. If this is true and I win such a match, would I then gain more MMR than from a regular match since the opposing team had more MMR or not really a difference.
