Just saw Godzilla
Pretty good overall, moves quickly. Don't worry about what moviebob said, the people aren't really that important and it doesn't really have the time to flesh them out.
TL/DR - it is a Godzilla movie, he mostly looks like Godzilla, and it is solid enough for what it needs to be while not perfect.

Okay, everyone reading on has been warned. On with my thoughts:
-
Good pacing, move's fast, there's enough action and I didn't notice any real slow spots once it got in gear.
-
Godzilla needs to go on a diet. The american food is just swelling him up. He doesn't even have a neck anymore.
-
That said, he looks like Godzilla this time around.
-
Not enough monster-on-monster action scenes. I like how they cut away from the monster on monster action, but overall, they probably should have extended them, particularly the last fight a little.
-
While I'm not knocking them for "meh" characters, they could have spent a little more time fleshing them out.
-
The music soundtrack is great.
-
I think the movie was a little short by about 20-30 minutes, I really hope they come out with an extended edition with extra monster fighting scenes, but I'm not holding my breath.
-
IMO the other monsters got a little too much screen time compared to Godzilla. Godzilla almost seems relegated to being a literal incarnation of "deus ex machinca" as proclaimed by Ken Watanabe's character of Dr. Serizawa.
-
I think this is a good movie for fans of the series, or sci-fi/kaiju in general, but I'm not sure it'd be the best starting point for someone who's never seen one before. And I don't mean this in a bad way, while it tells a complete story and it is good, to be honest, I don't think Godzilla gets enough focus or is as central to the story as he should. Basically the hero is the guy who starred in kickass, the villains are the MUTO (the other giant monsters), and Godzilla is just doing his thing.
-
I really wish they put a little more time into the monsters duking it out with each other. It wet my apatite without filling it, which is great marketing as I want more but now I need to watch one of the other movies. Maybe Godzilla vs Mothra and King Ghidora.

I saw it in 3D and I don't think it was worth the 30 bucks for 2 tickets. Nothing overly felt like it had to be 3d, but it wasn't that annoying intrusive 3D crap either. Worth seeing on the big screen at least once though. I got in close enough that it filled my 3d glasses in one of those theaters where you can feel the bass rumble in your chest. The chest rumbling part was awesome. Every Godzilla movie needs that.
