LP loss in ranked

I just want to know why you lose so much more lp than you would have gained. I mean if you go on a 4 game winning streak after getting promoted and you have roughly 50 lp (+/-5), but you lose the next 2 and you're back to 5 or less lp. Is it just me? I mean I know I'm desperately trying to get out of bronze, but when you take 2 steps back for everyone forward it seems impossible. I admit I not always at the top of my game but there are games where I'm kicking major ass, working well with the team, communicating effectively, and keeping my eye on objectives by not chasing everyone around the map for a kill. But even when a team is working well together losses still happen. I guess if I understood how lp is calculated it might make more sense, it's just so very very frustrating. I've even started trying to avoid ranked play on the weekends because I find I lose more then than during the week. Any help or references I could use would be very much appreciated, or hell even tips and critique would be welcome as well.

LP gains and losses depend on your mmr, so if your mmr is way above the divison you're in, your loses won't cost you very many lp and your gains will be huge, and vice versa.

If you consistently go on winning streaks and then occasionally lose, even though at first you might lose all your lp progress, eventually your mmr will 'catch up' so you don't lose enough lp to hold you back from advancing another division. Repeat until you're at the point where you don't go on winning streaks (without corresponding losing streaks), then you're likely roughly at the division most appropriate to your skill.

It can definitely get grindy sometimes, but every game is an extra bit of practice, and even if you end up carrying a game you should still be thinking about how you can improve. If you ever died, think about what you could have done differently to avoid that death: Better warding? Better positioning? etc.

Just google Elo Ratings.
