@ Bubobubo: "we want content that... leaves you glad when you look back, even months later."

Most of League's content fits pretty squarely into this category, in my opinion. There are a lot of people that will bring up specific rework skins, early skins, etc., but this thread isn't about that stuff. This thread is about Hextech Annie.

There are, to my knowledge, three exclusive skins to the hextech crafting system. Hextech Annie and the Hextech ward are two that I am SUPER interested in owning. But, every time I ask a player who has Hextech Annie how much it cost them, they say "hundreds of dollars," and they usually make some quip about how they hate themselves or regret their purchase.

Now, I'm not really interested in attacking you over this. I would love to have hextech annie, but this is just a game, after all. I'm more interested in how you would justify such a situation, given the quote that I put in the title. How do you justify Hextech Annie when the players who have it regret the financial hole they put themselves in to earn it? How does that fit this philosophy?

Again, not an attack; I'm just looking for an honest answer. Because I would buy this skin if anyone I had talked to said it was worth it. I want to have it. But I don't want to hate myself after I get it.

They lament it because of how they earned it. I doubt the players who got lucky and unlocked a Hextech Annie Skin Shard regret it, nor will those players who will over time naturally unlock 10 Gemstones regret it.

The people who regret it are those who were quick to throw away their money for a lottery chance. They spent about $500 for a 1350RP quality skin, knowing it was a 1350RP quality skin. But their impatience made them ignore that fact until they had spent the $500.

I don't see that as Riot's problem any more than people who are impatient to own all the Champions and buy them with RP is Riot's problem. They allow for it, but it's never been the encouraged way to go about things.

My bitter sweet purchase is Pulsefire Ezreal. I just don't like it enough, and doubt I will until it gets updated.

Bump with additional griping:

Assuming that the lunar revel envelopes actually have a 1/3 chance to drop a golden relic, it would cost an average of 3,750 RP per gemstone. That's 37,500 RP, over $200, for Hextech Annie. That's the "promo event" cost on average.

How could I possibly feel good about buying a skin that wasn't even legendary for $200? It does seem rather predatory to me. Please correct me if I'm thinking about that wrong.
