Here's a story.
There are so many threads here about "please buff this champ", or "this crap doesn't work" or "nerf Lee Sin" -_-
Even I'm guilty of it, but I'm getting bored with the threads I'm seeing up. So I've decided to create a small story thread for no particular reason. Post or don't post, whatever is fine.
"What am I even doing here?" Robert asked himself aloud.
He had been waiting in line in front of the Uber-Mart for the past hour and a half. His wife, Marian, had insisted he come to be able to get them a new tv since they were having their yearly-one-only-sale; in order to get there in time to get a good place in line, he had to get up at 4:30AM to make it. The store would not be open for another 2 hours, so here he stood, rubbing his hands in the cold and blowing some air in them, hoping to coax a bit more feeling in them.
What was wrong the TV we already had, anyway?
He'd asked Marian as much earlier. The TV they had was purchased only a few years ago, but she had insisted that they get the new model, since they wouldn't have another chance to save so much money on it. He tried, of course, to explain to her that purchasing a new flat screen tv, even at half the cost, was still spending a great deal of money not saving it, but this was an argument they've had many times in the past, and the lessons of those times only lasted so long. It was better in this case to simply capitulate and make the purchase himself, rather than refuse and have her do it behind his back. Again.
The sudden movement and noise of the people shouting in front of him brought him out of his reverie. Wait, the line shouldn't be moving yet... what's going on? Rather than moving forward, the people in front of him seemed to be scattering away from the store in great haste.
Robert had just enough time to see the cracks forming on the outer walls of the store and the surrounding pavement before a large tremor passed through the ground beneath his feet throwing him off balance and dropping him on his seat. He watched as the store in front of him rumbled before collapsing into the ground and falling into from his position seemed to be a bottomless hole, the sounds bending metal supports and crashing rubble echoing across the parking lot. Rising to his feet, he watched in awe as the sounds of the building fell a seemingly impossible depth before finally fading out all together.
An eerie silence passed over the parking lot. For a time, the people who were there simply stood watching in shock.
"Holy shit!" Someone yelled breaking the spell upon the silent watchers, "Jeff did you see that, man? That was insane!"
The shouter looked to be a younger man, possibly in his early 20's wearing a beanie, and coat, holding his phone out toward the scene of the carnage, and approaching it. As the man did so, more people began to find their courage and move forward to examine the hole.
For a moment Robert considered taking a look himself, his curiosity tingling, but he decided it would be better to get to his car now before more of the ground collapsed around the store or the police arrived. As he pressed through the crowd of people moving to get a closer look at the scene, he observed that a somewhat smaller number of the interrupted shoppers had a similar idea to get out of the area.
Looking ahead, Robert saw his car in the distance, but it was still a bit of a walk to get there. He had always preferred to park towards the back of the parking lot closer to the street exits; it meant a longer walk to and from the store, but it was much easier to get out of the lot when the store was during its busy hours. He moved at a brisk pace, eager to get back home to go back to bed.
Well, looks like we won't be getting that new TV after all, Robert mused with a smile.
He had just reached the passengers side of the door when he heard the renewed sounds of screaming behind him. Looking back he saw the people once again were scattering and running away. Only this time, towards the back of the runners, he saw a man, lifted up by seemingly... nothing. He was simply moving up in the air somewhat, struggling, before a flash of red tore across front his body and he began to be ripped apart in mid air. As they ran more and more people toward the back of the stampede seemed to be ending up in a similar manner.
A stampede charging in his direction.
Moving quickly, Robert rushed to get to the other side of his car. Scrambling through his pockets he quickly found his keys and unlocked his car door. Not even bothering to buckle his seat belt, Robert immediately threw the key in the ignition and started his car as the familiar sound of the engine starting and the radio came to his ears. Not waiting for anything else, he put the car into reverse and backed his car quickly out of his space - so quickly that he banged his right back bumper against one of the cars across the narrow parking lot road, sending him bouncing against his seat with the impact.
"Crap!" he yelled, startled in that one moment, before shaking his head and shifting his car into drive.
For just a moment he looked out the window to see a group of people running toward his car, with pleading looks on their faces, among them he saw a woman running carrying a young child in her arms.
Too many... the thought came unbidden to Robert's mind.
Turning his head away from them, he slammed down the petal and turned out of the lot, speeding off out of the lot and onto the early morning road.
