Response to the Open Letter to Parents

(TL;DR: both sides should be more involved. Real time parenting + technical support makes this more efficient and effective.)

If children cannot control themselves, why not help them by just taking real actions?

Riot Games Korea has already developed a time limit system that allows for customization and explicitly limits the time that a child can play on league (http://imgur.com/DSk5Xdy), so why not us? Of course, I am not belittling the author's intention of writing this letter, and the incentive is great. However, sometimes it's easier if both parties can be involved during the process other than just single-sided parenting .

After all, Riot developed this fun game, so that does not exempt Its responsibility in the process.

Just a little personal jibber jabber.

It's a pretty common philosophy in the US that parents are ultimately responsible for the well being of their children, not companies, schools, or governmental agencies.

I think the reason Korea can do this is because to play in Korea, you need a "korean social security number" to make an account. So the company knows your actual age, and can have these restrictions if they're underage. Other countries (I believe) would never do this, and children can lie about how old they are. Now they could implement some kind of Adult features like they have on TVs and a few devices nowadays, but in the end, it's just as effective, probably even less than, to have the adult be more aware of the game, like the post is trying to say.
