currently i have 12mbps ulpoad and 3 mbps download speed and i just tried a custom match and had about 2 seconds of lag. i cant upgrade for faster internet due to no service offering anything in my area. what speed is recommended? it is just me on and no one else using internet at same time. is there anything i can do to maybe make it faster? i heard someone was playing with 6 mbps so i feel like i should be able to play. thanks

It's not your bandwidth, it's your latency, which is easily affected by distance to the servers and interference with your connection by firewalls and improper settings.

I think you mean 12 mbps DOWN and 3 up. Download speed is typically much higher than upload. But anyway, your 12 or 3 is plenty. Most games don't take very much bandwidth.

You've got enough speed up and down to play the game, so Mbps isn't likely your issue. The problem you're likely running into is your ping (although it might be your computer).

Open up a custom game or a game against Bots. Press Ctrl+F and you should see a number pop up in the upper right under the score board. It should be your ping. What's that number?

u can play league running off a phones 3g w/o lag.

if it is happening to you I assume its either distance related or technical related.

It's probably because you have satellite internet. I have a 2MBS down connection and I get 250-300 ms atm in Canada, but pinging the new server is 45-50 (On DSL not satellite). I would have a tech come in and check to see if your receiver is placed properly or if there is anything interfering with the signal. My aunt had problems with her satellite internet being slow, and she had someone look at it, turns out whoever installed the dish had it pointing pretty much the opposite direction it should have been.

Your ping will still be terrible compared to a landline due to data having to travel to the satellite, then down to a hub somewhere before heading to the LoL server, then back. Basically it can quadruple the distance your data travels so your ping goes up by the same amount.

If everything else works then it is probably not an issue with the dish. Most likely you are just seeing the delay from your data needing to travel so much further. Depending on where your ISP has its hub, your data could be travelling the distance across the states 3-4 times.
