Idea for better communication between teams.
Hello there. I was playing solo queue one night. We all know how it can be. It can be tedious, frustrating, and just plain out annoying when your teams cause you to lose by senseless arguing. I had a game like this one night and decided to brainstorm an idea to fix at least some part of this problem. Here it goes.
What would you think if League of Legends had it's own VOIP client? No, not just voice chat in-game, but a client that you could configure before the game so that you wouldn't have to mess with settings when you enter the battlefield. Most people I could ask this question to would say, "Oh what is this, DOTA 2? That sounds so dumb." without even thinking about the rewards this could bring us as a community. Many players are toxic in this community, I have to admit this. If the statistics show that there actually aren't many, then maybe I'm just unlucky. Even so, with this idea we can go far in the aspect of working together to win our ranked and blind games instead of going into a game expecting to do everything yourself.
Let me explain my idea more thoroughly, since I know that I have not went into full detail yet. I will explain the process of this VOIP system step by step.
Part I: Setting up the VOIP.
I was thinking about DOTA 2's system of voice chat. I've played the game a bit, and notice that barely anybody uses it, and those that do just try to piss people off because nobody really understands how much of a luxury voice chat could be in terms of teamwork. (Wait, you might be saying right now, "What if they don't have a mic?", I will be getting to that soon, just hang in there.)We all know that DOTA is much different than League of Legends though, (and I don't want this thread to turn into a huge war between Dota and League. I was using Dota as a comparison for the communication system.), League has never had a voice chat option in it's history. If we incorporate it now, think of how many people will be happy about being able to actually work together with their teammates. I can assure it would be a lot less stressful than yelling "OMG stop fucking feeding" over chat. (We've all been there.) The voice chat will be a separate window from the league of legends window. You can enable it inside the client options without having to go into game. It would be in the same place as where the disable profanity filter would be. Having it in a separate window would be a bit more difficult to incorporate, but would yield large reward. This way before you even enter summoners rift, Twisted Treeline, or anything else you like to play; You will have the voice chat client configured and ready to go with everything working.
Part II: Matchmaking and Voice Chat.
Alright, now you may be thinking this is all going to be complicated, but bare with me. I will even post instructions with images how the voice chat will work at the end of the thread. You will enter queue as you normally would, but before you get put into queue another window will pop-up asking whether you are planning to use voice chat or not. This will separate the Queue into two parts. Voice chat and non-voice chat. If you would like to use voice chat queue, the game must be able to detect that your mic and sound are working. This will prevent any mishaps with not being able to talk in game, and will save quite a few people before the game even starts. When your queue finds a game you will enter the game as normal. Before you enter champ select the client will send a signal to the voice chat client to put you into a room where you and your team can converse. This system can be set up as different lobbies or something by riot. There are many ways you can organize this, but I'm not an expert on organization, so I'll let the professionals at Riot work their magic with this if they decide to incorporate it into their game. You will then play the game as normal. Normal chat will still be available. It's all normal, just with voice chat. When the game ends you will be able to talk to your team still at the stats screen, but when you click exit or play again it will exit you out of the voice chat channel. After that the process will start all over again.
Part III: Will this really work?
The answer is: I don't know. I really have high belief that it will after putting together some data. I have gone into ranked queues before asking people if they had skype. I actually have had a few games where we all added each other during the loading phase, and then started a group call. We had a ton of fun and still won our game due to being able to communicate clearly and at a fast pace. Think about it. When you go into a 5v5 ranked game with your team, (If you have one), or say a 5 man group for a blind game. You usually have Skype or some kind of voice chat program open, right? Why? It's because of two reasons. One: It makes the game more fun, of course. Number Two: Because you know you'll do better if you can give honest criticism and help to anothers gameplay, you can organize ganks, teamfights, etc. It makes the game so much easier.
Part IV: What about trolls and toxic players even over the voice chat?
I have come to think about this, and even though the chances are pretty rare that someone would do something like this it can happen. There should be a recording of each session logged with an ID as an MP3 or WAV file on riot's servers. Each player will be able to view the ID of their session, and if they need to report someone, then they can send in a report with the ID of the session. I know this has a few loopholes in it. This part just needs a bit of work. There can also be mute keys for the chat if someone is really messing up the voice chat. They can be hotkeys that can be changed in the voice chat clients option window. The default keys could be NUMPAD 1-4, one for each player player in the voice chat. Another thing you could be wondering is how do you know who is who with these hotkeys? Each member in the game will have a number somewhere near them on the scoreboard or even the loading screen. That number will tell you what their member number is, and you can use the "Mute member #X" key to mute that person.
So guys, what do you think?

It'd be that easy.
