What internet speed?

I'm currently going to move into a new house and need Internet, but there isn't much internet that is offered where I am moving too. An option is satellite internet, I don't know if that is fast enough, what is the requirements for upload/download speed, etc. what are Internet requirements. I want a good speed with no lag and good ping. Please let me know if you know. Thanks.
