@Riot-Haters....TlDR included.
League is an evolving game and riot can change it however they see fit.
Greetings Rioters and fellow league community! I am a casual league player that started playing around the end of season 3. I play 2-3 games a day, mostly with friends, and hover around s4. I hope to one day make it to gold, but I am in no rush and life sometimes demands I take breaks from the game. League is a great game and has provided opportunities to connect with different people on my campus, start friendships, alleviate stress, or just wind down from a day. I've broken this down into a few sections, so feel free to jump.
Evolution Even though I have only really played 2 full seasons, it doesn't take time to see that league changes over time. The game changes with each patch. Meta's shift from tanks to assassins, Late game carries to early game carries. Item changes bring power swings to some, and deny power spikes from others. With the exception of a few outliers, many champs rotate between being OP, meta, and underpowered. Its just the nature of the game.
League is not Halo, Fallout, Call of Duty, or any other big name console franchise. These games are relatively untouched after development. Obviously in todays gaming world DLC is added, occasional bug fixes are changed, and an occasional nerf or buff happens along the way, but in general the game you buy is the game you get. It will be the same after a million playthroughs. League will never be the same game you played when you first logged on.
While i don't love every nerf or buff, I love that the game evolves. I play a lot of tanks and immobile mages so I enjoyed tank season, and hate whenever assassins, like leblanc, are back in meta. Other players are exactly the opposite. If the game was dominated by one meta for too long many more people would quit. The game will never be perfect with every champ at a %50 win rate, and all we can hope for is a fairly even match. When something in the game is bad, or could be improved upon, Riot steps up and does its thing.
Riot Riot, although we don't always like to think so, has the full picture of what is going on. We have some stats from various websites, but they can see everything that is going on. They know if a champ is really op, or if you just got stomped by a lee-sin because outplays and skill. They can see just have fast the average and skilled player gets sated. They look at certain mechanics and discuss whether they are actually unhealthy or not, and can see various data that supports what they do or don't do. We have a very small window into the game, based what we have encountered.
Riot has the difficult job of caring for a fragile evolving game. For over 1000 people, league is literally life. The job puts food on there families tables. For them to purposefully ruin the game through any change, would be stupid. They would bring the company to ruin and lose their livelihood. Perhaps the nerf or buff around LCS, as I am sure it makes the most money for them, but even so I am positive they are not making decisions to run the game into the ground for the player base. That said, Riot can do whatever it wants. It is a free game, and the only thing you technically need to put into the game is time. Riot does not need to bend to the wish of every complainer or hater. They have a big picture in mind that you don't, and do anything they want to see the big picture realized.
Riot and Champ Select This is just another way in which the game is evolving. If the new champ select was in place from the beginning, no one would know any different. We do not know, to my knowledge, how long this has been an idea or in development. I am positive though Riot didn't have the idea a month before the PBE release. It is evident that they put effort into it.
For whatever reason Riot decided that now was the best time to introduce it to NA and Turkey. They could only do so much stress testing on PBE and other venues before trying it live. I am sure they knew there would be bugs and things that need to change. Thats why it wasn't released worldwide yet. Maybe Riot chose NA because we have the newest infrastructure, or perhaps because we will be the most vocal about complaints. Either way, we have. The game is evolving.
Dynamic Queue has been in place for nearly 24 hours. Expect long waits, and being matched against teams of 4. I personally trust that riot is watching what is happening and will make changes as needed. They know how long the average wait time is and I am sure they are looking to speed up outliers. They can see how many solo players are matched into groups, and are looking to minimize that occurrence. I am sure they have thought through many variables that people on boards will never think of.
TLDR League is an evolving game and riot can change it however they want. They are not intentionally ruining the game, because to ruin the game would be to lose their job. Before complain about nerf, buffs, and the new dynamic queue, trust that riot is doing its job to take care of the evolving baby that is league. They have the bigger picture in mind.
Riot: From me and many others in the community, thanks for trying to implement positive changes. Best of luck in wading though all the changes and decisions in the New Year.
