What's in a name?
(Warning! Adult language!)
This has occurred in gently increasing frequency the past few days. I keep finding people with inappropriate names, all referring to genitals, their sexual prowess or racism. Just because you try and get away with it by calling yourself "Nigbickeddigger" (And yes, I found a few names very similar to this) isn't funny, it's not clever, and you'll get brained with the banhammer (or whatever Riot does in response to these cases) even harder for it. It begs the question why. It's one thing if you let some foul profanity slip in the heat of the moment (unless you have ultra tourettes and regularly employ killphrases in your everyday speech), but names generally have more, better thought put into them (unless you're XxCallofCODFan92xX).
Names are our first identity on the internet when physicality is entirely optional. In the complex machine that is our brains, a name is amazingly simple, yet like a search engine it draws out all the associated info with it when we simply think about the name. Faces are a much more complex mechanism and the way we recognize faces and our internal, subconscious responses are equally complex, so much so that interesting mental conditions start to pop up when a spanner is tossed into that system. While names and words in general are also easy to screw up, it still doesn't take away the fact that they are much more simple and universal. I can guarantee you more people know the name Faker in this community than they would trying to pick him out from a lineup.
Mind you I'm saying this as a writer with an incredibly colorful track record, to say the least, so I'm not coming at this with a prudish mindset. Why go into so much trouble to basically troll? Why associate yourself with the profane and inappropriate?
