Moved: Question for artists.
Moved this from Story, Art, & Sound since it didn't belong there.
Not sure if this is for League art in general, or just official League art (maybe this belongs in "Concepts & Creations", a more targeted audience?), but I've been trying to learn to draw and I've always preferred art that does more with less, like the simplification that anime uses. Art that doesn't have to have every line and every gradation placed just so. I've been looking for books that can instruct me (a mentor would really be ideal, but that's shooting for the moon) but I keep coming across artists like David Okum and Christopher Hart who are American artists getting in on the "manga fad". They don't feel true to the style and I think it shows. I feel like it's a bad practice to... try to learn from people whose art is bad? (It's hard to express.) However, I look online and there are so many amazing artists out there making good art, I feel like it should be easier than I'm making it.
Yes, I'm a perfectionist and I'm working on letting that go and yes, blank-canvas syndrome is a killer (and I know that the only thing that'll make me better is practice and more practice), but what I'm hoping for from the community is some recommendations as to instructional resources so I can "learn correctly" to make, for example, awesome League fanart. I've been a fan of this community's art since back when Sefir was first making Nidalee and Udyr single-panel comics and now i come to you for help. I am often heard saying, "I hate learning to draw. I just want to draw!" I see good art and I say "I WANT TO DO THAT!!" (looking at YOU, RinTheYordle).
So what can i do to start making that transition? Pinterest, DeviantArt, and YouTube are great, if you can filter out all the stuff you don't want to watch, but it's exhausting getting there.
Suggestions?
::EDIT:: I draw, working on getting a tablet so I can draw digitally, but I have nothing against physical media. I also (for now) focus on line work (black and white, basically) from which I think I would then go to value shading before getting much into color.
::EDIT:: Hmm... it's not formatting properly right now. Forum problem, maybe? Sorry for Wall of Text.
