Dear Riot,

Since Season 4 when I began playing, I have been an avid fan of League of Legends. I love the game itself, the time and effort put into the different champions and game modes, which have kept me entertained for hours on end. However, one of my favorite parts of League is Riot’s interaction with the League community. I thoroughly enjoy browsing through the different stories posted on the website and client, telling the average player how other players, both professional and amateur, incorporate League into different areas of his or her life. Having said that, I believe I have a story that fits within the same vein as those previously mentioned.

As I said earlier, I began playing early in Season 4. I enjoyed playing the game, but my favorite memories of playing are hitting up my buddies on skype and playing a couple of rounds as a full five. When I began playing, I knew very few people who played League. However, as time went on, I discovered that more and more acquaintances that I had met but never gotten to know irl also played. So, hating solo queue and looking for new buddies who loved the game like I did, I began playing with the strangest group of people I had ever not-met.

It was awesome. We would often group up 3-4 times a week and play as much as we possibly could! While it was a bit awkward at first due to the lack of real life interaction, we quickly found that we had more in common than just this video game. Around the time Season 5 arrived, we became close enough friends that we started hanging out with each other outside of Summoner’s Rift, gradually becoming an inseparable group of nerds at heart.

Now, why does any of this matter? What makes this story worth noticing and sharing with others in the League community? Well, as of July 10th, our jungler/top laner got married. And the rest of the group? The four others, who as of Season 4, barely knew each other? We were his groomsmen. We went from being acquaintances who had no desire to interact with other nerds to the best of friends, culminating in the celebration of our friend’s wedding together. We even had a League-themed bachelor party, filled with cold drinks, chips and salsa, and hours of good old full-five premade.

Riot, if you made it through this long-winded story, I want to thank you for creating a game which was not only enjoyable to play, but drew together people who otherwise might never have discovered friends who shared similar passions. So, from a group of friends about to send off a buddy who’s transitioning from solo queue to duo queue, to the company that made it all happen, thanks.

GG,
