So just to give a quick overview, this occured in a WCA (World Cubing association) sanctioned competition and the format is as follows: Competitors each get 5 solves, the cubes are scrambled in the same way for each competitor, meaning competitor X and Y will have the same scrambles for cube 1, and the same for cube 2, so on and so forth. Competitors have 15 seconds to inspect the puzzle before starting the timer, at which point they are allowed to begin the solve.

Feliks Zemdegs is know as the fastest and most proficient Rubik's cube solver to have ever lived so far since the puzzle came about in 1974. He broke the world record for multiple categories, over and over again.

To give context, Feliks has been holding the world record for fastest average of 5 solves since 2013 (6.54 seconds) and currently holds the record for the 4th fastest single solve in the world at 5.39 seconds, the current fastest single solve belonging to Lucas Etter at 4.90 seconds.

Feliks just broke his own world record today. 3 years later. 6.45 seconds average of 5 solves. And here is the video for those who want to see it happen.
