The toxicity in this community and what we could possibly due to change it

The first place imo that we need to focus on toxicity wise is the forums. No one is getting anything done with this massive, toxic, circle jerk that if your posts/comments aren't within the norm of complaints, you're treated as an outcast. This didn't happen on the old forums. In fact, I spent more time there than I did in game. That's become so reverse as people just willingly downvote because they don't agree (which isn't even the USE of the downvote. Take to Reddit for the correct usage, guys, it's where it comes from). We need to stop thinking that we're some kind of elite and that we know the game better than anyone else ever. We're always complaining about the same viable champs, about Lee Sin, about whatever. How about, we change it up with interesting ideas that don't get shot down because the community doesn't agree? My posts may not be the best, my comments may not be the best or smartest for the community. But, I'm still going to do it. We need to be heard as a community, not a handful of people who all agree on the same problems. That gets us no where, and Riot has even proven this.

I'll really, truly work on at least making this a better place, but I want you as the community to help make an impact. However, I feel as though one person won't be making much noise about it. It's become evident to me that even we're not aware of the toxicity, it's there and strong on the forums. There's nothing you can do about the in game toxicity. People are competitive, we get into the mood and we don't stop. The slightest fuck up will make us lose less and less of our patience. It happens to everyone. What we can do is tell new players to mute anyone who even bothers to be remotely negative towards anything. They will learn, and they will improve. We don't need you, mister smurf, hammering away at them verbally about how much they suck when they're NEW. Period, I don't even care if it's a "This champ is sucking at last hitting". Hit that mute button. I don't expect people to really follow this, but if you do mute them use smart pings and just ping the hell out of the map and tell everyone good job to keep the chat friendly and refreshing.

I may be in low elo, but I've really turned around how toxic I used to be. It wasn't until the chat bans that I noticed this. It's not too late for everyone, but it's too late for most as they go unpunished no matter the amount of reports because they think they don't deserve it. If Riot wants to make a stale game, let them. But, for the love of God, do not ruin the experience of being completely new to a wonderful, beautifully drawn world with characters that interact with it. Please, don't be that diamond smurf who verbally abuses low leveled players or low elo players because they didn't solo drag at 3 minutes.

It's really sad to see a game like this turn bad on both the company side and the community side. Who cares if they wanna go Urgot mid, Leona top, Vlad jungle, Mundo and Garen bot. You should let them enjoy themselves before this game completely rots and becomes worthless. All games do, and as this game nears it's old age, we should just let people be people and play a game how they want. Isn't that why we have games that allows you to do multiple things? To play how you want? Sounds like it to me.

Note: you can down vote this, tell I'm wrong, all that shit all you want. I'm going to make a conscience effort to post in here about the toxicity and things we can do to change it, the more I think about this topic.

Banning people makes league more toxic, more bots, more black market accounts, more smurfs that grief new players. The solution is to realize we're adults & should work things out ourselves unless there is an extreme case, then gradual punishment in the form of chat restrictions and low priority queues would be far superior to a ban.

Maybe we all have the wrong approach to toxicity in game. Personally, I dont get upset about what people say to me in game. What infuriates me about it is the possibility of getting a ban myself by retaliating. I think a lot of players actually feel the same, but dont realize that is the root cause of it.
This really is one of the only games where you can get your account banned over the text you send to other players. Maybe we should stop punishing people for what they say and see how people feel. I am not saying we should take away reports. People who afk/leave or especially intentionally feed, should be permabanned after 2-3 occurrences. Just my opinion though...

Honestly, the most important thing we can do is strive to be positive ourselves. We say toxicity spreads, but positivity is contagious too.

Have you never been in that one room with that person who is SO happy that it annoys you at first... but after a half hour or so you're just as excited about whatever the hell you're doing as that person? Happiness spreads. We just need to let it.

Be happy. Be positive. Compliment people. Reinforce the things people are doing well. That's what we need to do.

What's the difference between a troll and the class clown? Everyone laughs at the class clown. If everyone's in a good mood and joking around, one person being a jerk just looks like a clown in stead of a troll. Fun is the best defense the community has against trolling, it's just people get so caught up in the competition that they forget to have fun.

It's nice to see people trying to make a change in this community, sadly chances are your post will just be ignored or downvoted. By the same kind of toxic, immature people that lurk in this game. Trying to change someone who doesn't have the same mentality as you and the few other positive people i see here is and WILL BE hard.

  1. This game is made up by kids, teens, and adults. Meaning their will be more immature people than mature people.
  2. People are selfish and only think about themselves, their character cannot be changed unless they're willing to do so.

People's attitudes are basicly based off those 2 main things. They have to realize they're not doing good by being toxic/immature or else they won't change.

That's just how i see it.
