What's the point of paying to change regions?

Literally every other online game allows you to change servers with the click of a button....Dota 2, Overwatch , heroes of the storm... pretty much every blizzard game.. Smite as well..... Why charge us the ludicrous 20 euro amount to play with someone on another region? Something like that should be free. Just saying..
