Nemesis Draft, Aram and Metaphors for Life
Let’s not sugar coat this. We play this game to get away but some of us just can’t handle Nemesis Draft or Aram. We will see players become salty when they don’t see anything they like, they will whine and cry two minutes in “ff at 20.” Why? Perhaps it’s because these modes are closer in their operations to real life than any other ones. They can’t handle life.
Aram does not let you pick, Nemesis Draft is the master of pain and suffering, it lets your worst enemies pick your champions for you, and there is no way in the seven frozen circles of damnation that these people are EVER going to want to see you win. These people want to see you crash and burn. They will throw everything at you and do the little hump dance over your body after then humiliate you. THESE are your enemies, not your teammates. They are the people you will defeat because revenge is the dish best served cold. How? You adapt, you practice and you get good. You fail, you get back up, and when that day finally comes when you encounter that player that humped your dead carcass you will wreck their face. You learn that there is a different satisfaction that exists in the human heart; one that is slightly painful, and even devious. It is self-satisfaction, the little smile in your soul knowing you’ve just turned the tables and made them think twice about doing that again. Yet, you do not gloat. “ggwp” you will say with grace because you are smart, too smart to fall into the karmic trap of the universe because if there is one thing the universe likes to do it is to dish out punishment. Writers have written about cosmic irony, we secretly wish for their just desserts and if there is a reason, the reason will fuel the will and the will will find a way.
Celebrate your victories though, but for the right reasons. When playing Aram and Nemesis Draft, the ultimate challenge is playing the hand you are dealt with. It is the ultimate test of your skill. It is a test of life that you will encounter constantly. You can go into ranked or normal and pick your adc and support, there is security in that, but screw security. Security is for the weak. To truly challenge yourself you need to face danger, you need to know that not only is failure is a possibility but that it is IMMINENT. You must learn that unlike video games, life works the exact opposite. The most experience points are gained from losing not winning. To stand, you must learn to fall and from falling you will learn that you are stronger than you thought yourself to be.
