Being in Bronze Sucks Ass

I'm a relatively new player in the ranked scene of League of Legends. I've been playing League on and off since season 1, but always casually. This season I gave ranked a shot, and boy is it hell. I can never understand how anyone can ever climb ladders unless they started outside of bronze. The amount of feeders, flamers, afk's and, (sometimes) just bad players is astounding. Just to give some anecdotal insight, I played hard and after about two days I managed to pull myself to my first placements to get to bronze IV. I started with 1 win, so I just needed 1 more. I lost both. My first match had me paired up with a duo that each had the silver border at bot lane and level 6 on caitlyn, level 7 on thresh, that I was sure were gonna carry, but they both ended up with scores of something like 0/9 each. They also flamed. A lot. My midlane was 1/14. I was 8/8 and that was the best score on my team. Everytime the enemy jungler ganked I died, and my jungler never ganked once ( I was top). My second game was also decided rather quickly. For my hardwork I recieved a gift of not one, but two afk's. How cool is that? I, once again, had the best score on my team, only 9/5, and we lost. This is all pretty disheartening. I feel like even if I could put up a decent score, something will always go wrong and I will never be able to climb. This was mostly just to vent, but any tips on just getting out of bronze would be much appreciated.

If you're in bronze and can't snowball then you are bronze. I was placed in Bronze in S3, Bronze 1.

Didn't lose a single game, immediately got out of Bronze.

Bronze is like playing against bots, they have no map awareness, no judgement, no real knowledge of the game at all and will collapse even vs a mediocre gold player.

If you can't snowball vs them, then you're in bronze because you are bronze, it's quite simple.

Considering the level of bronze players, any reasonable level player, again about gold, should have no problems carrying a 4v5 bronze game. I saw a game in low silver win from minute 1 3v5 when I had got out of bronze back in S3. Our adc and JG never connected, just Thresh bot, Ahri mid and Lee top. Was an easy win, you just have to snowball by outplaying them and killing them repeatedly as soon as the game starts. Which VS bronze if you're not bronze is an easy task.

The bottom line is if you think what you're doing is good and better than the level you are at, then you're not doing good at all.

Just looking at your history, your CS is extremely low, you die way too much, you never snowball without dying like 10 times in a game (so you still end up feeding the enemy loads of gold) and you feed badly in the majority of games, in a span of 8 games 4 of which you got 1 kill or less and always had more than 5 deaths with virtually no assists

It helps to duo with someone you can have fun playing with and stop thinking of ranked as a different atmosphere than normals.

The other thing you need to do in order to climb out of any elo, be it bronze or platinum, is stop focusing on two things entirely: winning and climbing.

The reason you don't want to focus on those ideas is because you'll easily become discouraged by losses and demotions if you care too much which in turn will inhibit your ability to learn from defeat in order to win and climb with the next game. I'm still working on this myself and it is really hard to do BUT if your only focusing on more specific goals you'll improve far faster and inevitably you will start to win more and climb as well. These specific goals should be personalized too, things like "My goal this game is to average 8cs per minute" or "This game I am going to take every dragon that spawns".

Once you have your personalized goals set you then need to focus on finding ways to achieve these goals that only rely on you to complete them, these plans can't involve anyone in your solo q team because as you and I are both well aware, they can be quite derpy at times and don't always follow instructions too well. It's a hard mindset to get into though, especially if you're an overly competitive person like I am. When you are able to get into it though then it makes the game more fun because it won't bother you as much when your jungler gets executed by the rift herald at 10 minutes or your ADC goes 0/12 by 10 minutes. I mean, there's nothing you can do about them doing things like that anyways so it is a waste of time and energy to let it tilt you or inhibit your own self improvement.

Hope this helped you in some way and hopefully it will anyone else who reads it as well. :D

Play 1 champ, get good at it and carry yourself. Focus on farming as the more farm you get, the more gold you have. Which in turn means you are going to be higher level and and have better items. Ideally, by the 10th minute, I aim to have farm between 70-100. I don't always hit that mark, but it gives me a guideline to follow. If I were you, I would play a bruiser/juggernaut since they carry hard and can handle their own. Darius, nasus, tryndamere, garen, renek come to mind. Pantheon is good once you learn how to survive. Farm, push lane, take down towers. Ignore teammates because at that elo, they all flame, they all point fingers. Focus on objectives, get better at farm, and carry. Score doesn't matter as much as knowing when to engage and how to win

Rank at the start of each season is generally a mess, but climbing the ladder no matter your rank takes time and perseverance. I didn't read other posts but looks like players giving you some helpful info.

Instead of giving you advice on how to play I will give you some advice that has helped me approach ranked through the years. Quick summary for myself. I have played since season 1 as well but unlike you I have played fairly steadily at least since season 3. I used to think because I played the game so much I automatically should be good at the game. I finally faced a reality check a couple seasons ago and realized that is not the case at all. Hell I have put more hours into this game than a lot of players and finally only achieved hitting gold. At the end of the day approaching ranked is not just about spamming games, but about learning and getting better. Below is a list of a few things I have learned over the seasons.

  1. Ranking up takes time. Unless you get super lucky in placements or do placements at the end of the season your given starting rank is most likely not your actual skill level. Generally your skill level is higher, but it takes time to rank up. Hell even challenger smurfs take 80-100 games to hit diamond on a new account.... (I assume that is playing from silver/bronze but if new account then it would be from gold for them). Either way even if they challenger, a new account for them won't start challenger. And even on their mains it takes them hundreds of games to generally hit their actual rank. I mean hell I was gold 3 last season and started this season bronze 1. At least early in the season mmr is higher so you get more lp gains. My win % is still shit and I am back to silver 3. It has taken me awhile though.

  2. Approach each game as a new game. It doesn't matter what happened in your last game. Whether you won or lost, whether it a promo or demotion game it doesn't matter. Each game is separate.

  3. Continuing off 2. Try your best to win each game. 1 game won't rank you up 10 divisions, but each game you win is one more win towards a higher rank and is 1 less loss that you have to makeup for.

  4. Don't play while tilted. If you get angry from a prior game take a break. If you are on a 2-3 game losing streak, take a break. You might not think your tilted, but after losing 2-3 or more in a row you will be. If you really want to rank up, take a break as spamming games will most likely lead to more losses leading to your rank dropping and then having to re-rank up.

  5. Don't Surrender. You won't win every game, but surrendering is a bad idea. Even pros throw games, but you are currently no where close to pro level and guess what? Games are thrown a lot. LIKE A LOT A LOT ALL THE TIME IN FACT. Low elo games are thrown so much you should never consider a game a win until your screen says "victory". I won so many games last season off games my teammates assumed we would lose its insane. People get comfortable and start making bad plays and they end up throwing games all the time.

  6. Stay positive. Try not to bad manner teammates. Mute toxic jerks as responding is a waste of time and focus.

  7. Try to learn from each loss. Think about what you could have done better. If you really want to rank up take it further. Watch your own replays, read more guides, focus on improving.

  8. If you get stuck between 2 ranks its not your teammates causing you not to rank up. Think of this as your skill wall and until you improve you won't get past this wall... or at least stay above it in rank. Like... say you were jumping between bronze 3 and bronze 4 but onetime you got on a nice win streak and got to bronze 2. Well unless you actually improved you won't stay bronze 2 or above for long as you will eventually get back on a losing streak and drop back into bronze 3-4 until you get good enough to play at a bronze 2 or higher level.

There is a lot more you can do. Honestly, last season is the first time I felt like I finally somewhat understood the game. But at the same time I also realized like Jon Snow I know nothing. For everything I learned and felt better about made me question so many more things I am currently doing in my play and what the right call really is. Knowledge is power. Although mechanics help, most people actually have pretty shitty mechanics. I see a lot of silver players who have ok mechanics, way better than mine sometimes but yet they never reach even gold. Why? Because their game knowledge is lacking. They get into risky situations late game and end up throwing despite being fed. So if you really want to rank up focus on getting better and you eventually will. It can be overwhelming, so just focus on a couple things and start building off that once you get better at those things.

Season 3 I was place bronze 4. I was pissed like you. Eventually I fought by way to silver 5 where I ended my season. Then in season 4 I worked my way up to silver 2 hoping for gold. Well... never got past silver 2 and ended season silver 3. Pretty much same thing happened in season 5 until I finally realized I was approaching ranked wrong this whole time. I started following the advice I listed above and finally got into gold. Now season 6 was really just a season of me getting back to gold and then chilling out having fun on other accounts. I ended gold 3 on this account and ranked 2 other accounts to gold. Each account took around 200 games to reach gold on but helped me realize my new current still level was somewhere in gold ( my estimate now is gold 3 as I hit gold 2 last season but dropped quickly back into gold 3 but have an easy time leveling through gold 4-5 on my other accounts). Obviously, it took me a long time and many games to learn this and I am still really not good at the game. Some people learn this shit quick and climb to like diamond in 2 seasons. I doubt I will ever even hit plat as I don't feel like putting in more energy to learn a role to play at that level, but I might guess we will see.

But basically.

Tl,Dr If you want to rank up then you have to focus on getting better. Once you improve you will move up to a new skill level. To continue to rank up you need to continue to improve. If you stop learning or doing what you know you will hit a skill wall and stay around that rank unless you continue to improve. Good luck.

It's possible to climb out of bronze. I climbed from bronze 4 to silver 5 in season 5 and from bronze 3 to gold 5 in season 6.

Climbing in ranked is all about consistency. Yeah, there's going to be some games that are out of your control. However, if you are consistently better than your division you will climb in the long term. People who are new to ranked expect to climb within a dozen games. Climbing takes much longer than that. It can take you 100-200 games to climb a full division (i.e. bronze 5 to silver 5.)

Keep playing, focus on YOUR mistakes (not your team's mistakes), improve your fundamentals, and learn from better players. I suck at this game and I made it to gold. If I can do it so can you.
