Cinematics
I've been a League player for about a year and a half now and when i first started playing in the dorm room of one of my friends from college, I was surprised to find out not only the number of Champions, but also that each champion had lore.
I'll admit, at first i was a little skeptical about it. I read a couple of the lore pages and i found it was kind of lack luster, an afterthought to the creation of the champions.
But the more I read and as the time went on, Riot began to make the lore sections much more interesting, giving extended lores (they might have been there before and I never found them, being the noob that I was) and creating factions and interactions between Champions. It really added a nice flavor to the game.
'What does this have to do with the Cinematics?' you might be saying at this point. Well, before I went into that, I wanted to explain why I feel the way I do about the story surrounding the League of Legends.
When Riot came out with their Cinematic "A twist of Fate" I was blown away. I've read a couple of posts that say that Riot should make Cinematics that focus more on the stories of individual Champions, for example, one post I read stated "Why was Twisted Fate fighting Fiddle and not Graves?" Don't get me wrong, I would have thought that that was the coolest, have a few champions that have problems with each other fighting it out. But more than that, I was enthralled by the level of detail that was put into making this short story.
We all play these Champions, we hear their little one lines and spam their jokes and laughs. But we really don't know them, they're not fully fleshed out characters. And yet, after watching one short Cinematic, I feel like i know these Champions so much better. The way TF fights Fiddle, the style in which Katarina dashes around the slower Garen, attacking where he least expects it, and Nocturne in general, attacking knowing that he is a force to be feared. It was beautifully done and, because of it, we know those Champions better.
Following that came the Spirit Guard Udyr comic. I thought that that was a very cool look into who Udyr was as a Champion, and the role that he plays in the world as a whole.
More than that, though, was the newest Riot video. I would have to say, story wise, Jinx has to be my favorite Champion (though her zap is O.P.). Nothing about who she is in her lore makes her stand out as particularly special, but it was a brilliant work that was done on the "Get Jinxed" music video that sold me. Of any Champion in the league of legends to date, she has the most personality. Her facial expressions throughout the video, her mannerisms, everything that was put into the video that we really cannot glimpse in the brief synopsis that explains what they have done and who they are.
With that, I would like to ask Riot to please put out more of your Outstanding Cinematics (I know that you enjoy watching them as much as we do) and to continue to expand the stories of the many colorful and interesting Champions you have created for the League. I would urge you to continue the way you did with Jinx, don't just stick to things happening in the League, move outside to what happened before present day. For example, I would really enjoy seeing a video entitled "The Hunt is On" (I think you know what i want it to be about).
In conclusion, I have enjoyed watching the world of Runeterra come to life through the stories that the Champions of the League of Legends, and I hope that Riot continues to make efforts to flesh out the lives of their creations.
