You're playing Urgot wrong. "u wot?"
TL;DR at the bottom.
Who even plays Urgot?
Jokes aside, sometimes it's fun to play different champs. And when most people play
, they will build around
's Q, items such as
.
I disagree about building around Urgot's Q, and if you're brave enough and curious to hear my opinions on what to build on
, then read on. Let's start by analyzing his kit.
Urgot's Kit
Q: Urgot's Q has an 85% total ad ratio. That's lower than your autoattack, and it can't crit. The reason it's useful is because of the base damage and the range. It also procs Sheen very reliably, and it increases your DPS if you weave it between your autos. At level 9, with Q maxed and including your base AD at level 9, your Q does 200 damage. It would take ~235 bonus AD to double that damage.
W: Urgot's W scales off of your total mana. However, the scaling is pretty poor. A fully stacked
will only add 80 shield.
E: Urgot's E applies
stacks on each tick, which means he is a good user of the item if you want its stats and shred.
R: Urgot's R is a great 1v1 tool since it gives him damage reduction and slows the target. It is even better in ganks, probably its best usage. It can be used in teamfights, but used at your own risk. It is best when following up a large aoe lockdown (think
or
), since your fear is guaranteed to hit.
Gameplay
Urgot is famous for an oppressive laning phase. He farms well since he's ranged, and he trades well because of his passive and low Q cooldown. If you don't all in Urgot to the death, you're going to get poked out by his EQQ(Q) combo. Now here's a key point - during laning phase, you're basically going to have item components. Possibly 1 item, boots and a component or two before laning phase is over. This means that base damage and kit utility are going to win lane a lot more than items! Your first item and boots are the only thing that will really affect it. This applies to basically any champion in any lane.
This brings me to my core point. Urgot's kit is most powerful before laning phase is over. His strongest powerspike is at level 7-9, because it's still laning phase and his Q gains much more strength from leveling it than his other skills. Muramana gives a powerspike a few minutes after laning phase ends, and around level 13, and it does this at the cost of a weaker laning phase. Neither of these things synergize with Urgot as a champion.
The Build
The goal with this build is to take advantage of his powerspike. Remember, his auto attacks scale better past his powerspike than his Q does, so we'll be building for autos instead of his Q.
Start:
If your laner will look to fight a lot (generally carries, juggernauts, and divers), go
. If they will look to farm and their trades are less frequent (generally tanks and ranged champions), go
.
Early items:
: Ranged champions can kite melee champions, but they need movement speed to do so.
: Same reason as Phage. Finishing full boots early on is good, and Tabi is my preferred choice. Feel free to adapt to each game.
: As I write this, Urgot has the 27th highest base AD of all champions at level 18 - impressive for a ranged champion. He is 2nd of all marksmen, only losing to
due to a recent buff (and only losing by .2 AD). Realize people built Sheen on Corki even before he got the buff.
Mid game:
: Naturally this is where we're headed. Remember, anything after this is past our powerspike, so now we'll focus on his best scaling - his autos.

: This is my favorite core. These two items provide very strong 1v1 capability, as they both have offensive and defensive attributes. With Triforce, you have 75% bonus attack speed and 20% cooldown reduction, so your DPS will be very high. Kiting, your passive and PD passive, your ult, and lifesteal provide plenty of defense. I also prefer Bloodthirster over Death's Dance because I don't like more than 20% cdr, just due to the way Q and Sheen timings work. Whether or not you want more cdr is totally up to you.

: Any of these can follow
as your core items instead of
or
. Just build each for the stats and passives you want.
(I probably have to explain
. First, you should only buy this when two conditions are met - 1, you have lifesteal; 2, the enemy has 3 frontline/melee champions.
amplifies your lifesteal when it has targets to hit, so the enemy having frontline is a requirement. It also applies your passive to every target hit, so you can reduce their entire frontline's damage output with one auto. This can very easily win a fight.)
Late game:
In the late game, you are most likely going to want the following in your build:
- Sustain (lifesteal)
- Resistances
- A Last Whisper upgrade (or Black Cleaver, generally don't stack LW and BC)
TL;DR/summary
's best powerspike is in lane, around level 7-9.

gives him much more power during that spike than
since
isn't
yet. It also has a much better build path since you get value out of the item components other than raw stats.
's Q has awful scaling, so it's better to build for your auto attacks. His Q gets its strength from its base damage, not from items. Unless the enemy team has no melee champions, no engage, and you're planning never to ult in teamfights, you're going to auto attack; you might as well build for it.
Example build:

Other viable items:
