Rito's Matchmaking

For the past week or so whenever my friends and I queue up, be it just 2 of us or a full five team, we always seem to get matched up against insanely high ranked teams. I don't know what is going on but most of my friends list that I play with is gold and we keep running into platinum players and diamond players. Is this a matchmaking issue or is our normal MMR really that high, because if so I'm getting tired of playing against people that are infinitely better than I will ever be and it's making this game unbearably tough.
