MMR/Placement Games (dropping 7 divisions)

In 2014, I ended up in platinum IV, not being too focused on climbing any higher with the amount of time I had to play the game and climb. As the 2015 season rolled in, I didn't do too terribly well on my placement games 6-10, and ended up dropping all the way to silver II. And here we are back at the end of 2015 where I climbed up to plat III. My question is, do I have to score 10/10 games to stay in platinum? Does Riot factor in where a player ends up in consecutive years? Will I have to climb out of silver every year dealing with players with half-baked knowledge and poor tactics? I am not being condescending but I struggle with the idea I have to piggy back a few players who aren't ready to move up. Plus, I waste time playing through 7 divisions..... I think it promotes players to rage.

Disregard the concept of rank as the sole indicator of placement results, and think of your initial seeding in terms of MMR. Here are the following scenarios that are likely to happen:

  1. If your MMR matched your rank last season, it's likely that you'll place perhaps 2-3 tiers below where you were ranked last season. This might mean that a Platinum 4 pre-season player may end up in Gold 2, and then play his/her way back up to Platinum 4 to essentially ensure that (s)he isn't placed too high, but can still climb to the rank (s)he was at without too much problem.
  2. If your MMR was lower than your rank last season, it's likely you'll place 2-3 tiers below where your MMR was last season. If you were Platinum 5 last season with a Gold 3 MMR, then the chances are that you'll place into somewhere around Gold 5 to Silver 1.
  3. If your MMR was higher than your rank last season, it's likely you'll place 2-3 tiers below or around where your MMR was last season. If you were Gold 3 last season, but your MMR was Gold 1 last season, you might place around Gold 1 to Gold 4.

Based on personal experience, of course. The algorithms haven't been published by Riot or anything.

The wording on your poll question makes me cringe.
