Farewell Legacy Client

The legacy client has been the heart of League of Legends since its golden years. There are so many things that will not be forgotten that is non-existent in the new one. We can only hope that some of its features get returned to the new client. I have my doubts though since the new client is about as dull as a blank website with no interactive options.

1. Spectating Ranked/Draft Games

Remember almost 2 years ago we used to be able to spectate other people's games? This was before the semi-new Draft queue setup. Whether if it's in Draft or Ranked queue, if you were tilted at a game you could take a break and watch someone else play and notice the mistakes they make and realize how you can improve based on other people's games. Now the only option is watching people in the LCS play.

2. The interface was simple and not confusing.

New players who joined League before the new client was even discussed, would agree that the old client is very user friendly, you knew exactly where to go if you needed to do something based on the icons. Summoner profiles were also very visual. You could see how many games they won, you could see what champions they play other than their top 3, you could see what rank they were last season very visibly, and you could see what runes and masteries they use if you're not sure what to use for a certain champion. Now, in the new client, all of that has been removed, almost every single profile will look exactly the same since you can't see how long someone's been maining a champion (unless you put your mouse over it, but ain't nobody got time for that), the season border is a joke, and unless you own an ultimate skin, your profile background is not what you would want it to be.

3. You won't be able to see how long someone's been playing unless you look them up

A 75 games won profile will look identical to a 10000 games won profile, plus those Bronze-Diamond badges on your Classic/ARAM games were pretty neat to see. But now that's all gone. There's almost no reason to play ARAM anymore, aside from the fun portion of it.

4. Customizing the client to your liking

Splash arts, champion icons, and summoner backgrounds were all customizable (even though nobody saw them other than you, it's just like your desktop background). If you didn't like a certain splash art because the new one looks ugly as hell, you can replace it with the old one or put a picture of yourself in it. If you didn't like any of the ultimate skins, you could change your background to make it look like Thresh that way every time you log on, every time you see it it's like "wow, that's pretty cool."

Now don't get me wrong, there are a few good things about the new client which is why the new client HAD to be removed. Such as replays of your old games, updated champion select, practice tool, and that crashes in the old client happened ALL THE TIME. But all in all, I think the old client does very well at being simple and interactive while the new client doesn't have hardly anything of the sort. We already know that customizing the client is not going to happen since you're not suppose to do that anyway. But having replays back since we have Solo queue again, and making people's profiles a tad bit more interesting would benefit a lot of people.

I really do miss the Old Watch ranked games thing. They were pretty hype.

  1. Spectating Ranked/Draft Games

Iirc, it didn't work with New Champ Select queues, Riot fixed it, then it broke again because of the client. I think Riot then said it wasn't helpful enough in its current form, so they'd retire the feature for the time being. Personally, the most useful part of the feature was that it included maps besides SR, since it's dramatically more difficult to find examples of high-level non-SR play. Hopefully Riot retains and improves that function if they reintroduce Featured Spectate.

Riot's mentioned the possibility of profile improvements, including those badges. They might be back?
