Strong win streaks will sometimes cause you to gain slightly less LP with each victory.

I feel like this needs to be said to all that do not know because this came to me as a surprise. I contacted riot in question of my winning 9/1 provisionals and being placed in bronze 1... I know they cant actually do anything about it but i wanted an explanation on how the ranking system works because my 10 games on a new profile would most definitely not get someone placed in bronze 1. My friend went 6/4 got bronze 2... it just doesnt make sense.. so they replied and werent of any help, i got the usual oh its just there now but dont worry you can do it speech, but the next person's reply was what really bugged me. Greetings Summoner,

Your current MMR has placed you where the system believes you should be at this time based on your game history. Because you are currently in the level of play that has been decided by this system, the amount of LP you will gain/lose per game has normalized. This value will be much lower than your earlier games that were used for placement within the ladder. Strong win streaks will sometimes cause you to gain slightly less LP with each victory.

I hope this clarifies the situation. Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

So you are telling me that i should win 2 lose 1 and repeat because if i just keep winning over and over i wont rise as fast? Now how exactly does that make sense in anyway shape or form? Game #1 : Jinx 9/2/8 Win Game #2 : Leona 7/3/32 Win Game #3: Orianna 4/4/2 Loss Game #4 : Caitlyn 4/1/12 Win Game #5 Caitlyn 5/0/4 Win Game #6: Thresh 3/3/25 Win Game #7: Sion 16/5/18 Win Game #8: Sion 7/4/10 Win Game #9: Leona 1/4/10 Win Game #10: Vi 2/4/16 Win (my provisional games) If anyone has any idea on what in the world is going on i would love an explanation, and i just wanted the world to know this info that is completely new to me.

They want to avoid the situation where a person rises too quickly due to luck and then has to fall sharply and suddenly in order to equalize it. If they put a slight damper on your LP gains as you get massive win streaks, you'll still rise more quickly than if you'd had losses 'cause you won't have lost the lp from the loss, but they can reduce the likelihood of someone, say, rising to a tier they don't belong and then going on a 30 game losing streak, getting so depressed they quit and never play again.

Edit: Also, your first several games after placements will have much larger gain potential than any other because they want to quickly sort you to where you belong.

  1. Vi 2/4/16 and you still won?
  2. Bronze I is for noobs. You are placed in Bronze I because of your previous ranked matchmaking history. EXAMPLE: If in Season 4, you were Bronze III and you progressed to Bronze II, League of Legends automatically (Regardless of outcome) places you in a state whereas you are near the Bronze II bracket however, you may have progressed in your skill but you can't be too sure about that, based on 10 games.

I absolutely hate the ranked system. I've given up. It's not based on skill at all, only your wins and losses. I KNOW I've gotten better and am better than the majority of the people of my rank in bronze, because i play with my diamond friends ALL the time. I could be a god, but it wouldn't matter because it's purely based on match history and nothing else. If the system was based on progress of sorts, with goals like "get 50 kills" and then earn LP from that, i would be happy.

The wins and losses based elo system works, if, and only if, you play a large amount of games. There are many videos, and people who say, accurately, that statistically, because the system draws the players of both teams from the same well, if your team is bad, the enemy team will be bad to. This means that there are 5 enemies who could be bad. You are good, leaving only 4 players on your team to do poorly. however, this will only begin to equalize at around 10 to 20 games. This means climbing will require you to play around 100 games. That is a lot, and could be considered to many for many bronze and silver players, however, the claim that the elo system we have doesn't work is simply false. The people who play enough games climb to where they belong, and many diamond players and up have proven that elo hell doesn't exist by consistently climbing the ladder. The issue is the number of games necessary to climb, and the fact that many of us simply do not have the time to play the required number of games.
