Reports need to be more helpful to players
Currently only a few of the report options actually mean anything at all, and only ONE of them alerts the player to their behavior.
The idea behind reporting SHOULD be threefold
- to alert riot to players harming games
- to help players reform
- to allow players to have recourse after being harmed in the game
Only one of these things is currently being accomplished. Players have little chance to reform because they are seldom made aware of specifically what is wrong, and players that report seldom feel like their reports do anything.
So, can reports be made to help people? I think so, and here's how:
Add in more specific issues that affect games in the report feature. (Did not group, bad farm, died too often, countered himself, ETC.) and track this information in percentages that can only be seen by the player being reported.
Therefore someone could see that others think they fail to group in 33% of their games, giving them a visual that can help them amend play WITHOUT elevating things to punishments that dont accomplish much anyway. You can even have automated warnings (like with verbal abuse) that alert someone to their issues as in "Many of your recent teammates think you could improve your cs, try making that a priority on your next game summoner!" - its helpful, its positive, and it allows players to change without toxicity.
Currently the model is that players get frustrated with each other, and because they have no recourse against gameplay issues, they report for things that dont apply or end up raging. No one is helped, toxicity perpetuates, and more punishments are needed.
tl;dr - players need options to help each other, rather than options to hurt each other. The current system is a tattle tale mentality of trying to get anyone in trouble that ticks you off, and doesnt do much to better the community.
