Rito, your "maintenance" nearly cost me a ranked game

I was playing a ranked game, which i don't take lightly as I am an inhabitant of elo hell, all of a sudden I get the sudden loss of control and little box associated with a brief disconnect, but this one was different, it was 5 minutes long. FInally after waiting for what felt like forever, but i'm sure was no more than, like i said before, 5 minutes, I decided to close the game client and click reconnect in the other client only to find myself back in the game almost immediately. What I'm concerned about is the fact that it was so fast to just exit and start it over, makes me wonder if it would have acted the same way if i had just done that initially. Point is, I'm not really understanding 1. what the problem was, no big deal never do anyway and 2. did my restarting the client solve the problem? If so it makes the "attempting to reconnect" sign that pops up kind of a lie and encourages me to just restart the client every time that happens instead of trusting and having faith in you great rito.
