[Suggestion] Create an Official Mentor Program where veterans can play and teach new players!

Hey guys,

I love playing with new players! These guys are trying out League for the first time, and I want them to have a great time and learn to love the game, just like we enjoy it now.

Right now the new player experience is pretty terrible, with toxic smurfs, and trolls etc. New players get put off by League within their first few games and quit, because of some smurf or because of toxic trash talk.

I propose a simple solution, where kind, Honorable players can opt in to tutor, play and mentor new league players!

I personally LOVE teaching new players and playing with them. These games arnt competitive, they're fun. If you think you can help new players have fun and get better, maybe you should opt into this program....

We can give new players the OPTION of joining a club, or a chat-room which is filled with a mix of new players and veterans. If newcomers already have friends etc, no one is forcing them to join!

But I think a lot of new players would like joining a community filled with other newbs and kind mentors.

What do you guys think? Do you think this is a good solution for the HARSH learning curve which is League? Honestly a lot of people quit within the first few games because they dont really know how to play, get utterly destroyed by a smurf, or have to deal with toxic trash talk.

WIth this solution we can create a community with a goal of introducing new players to league, and providing a supportive group where they wont be judged for bad plays. The goal should be to make sure everyone is enjoying / having fun, rather than winning or playing the most optimally. Obviously veterans can provide tips / strategies, but I think the main goal should be making sure the new players are having fun when playing League.

Do you think this is viable solution, if we have some sort of Official message for lvl 1 players saying "Hey, would you like to join the newcomers group where you can play with other newcomers and veteran mentors?"

Or do you think this idea wont help at all. I'm curious to konw the rest of the community's opinions on new players in general, and how we can help them get started.

Cheers, have a great day!

I think this is a great idea for newcomers to learn about league and what it has to offer :D

There is Competitive League and Non-competitive League.

To mix the two would make and create a toxic community. One person or players who partakes in the Mentorship would be strictly aiming to play LCS style or competitively while the non-competitive players who aren't mentored would aim to enjoy the game.

If the competitive player is annoyed and frustrated by the non-competitive it will stir problems. "I was taught by a veteran and you're building wrong." other insults would be thrown if the competitive player is heated at the non-competitive.

Sounds nice but maybe it would be more towards Custom Games.

In argument of Ranked games, well... Ranked games is already toxic enough.

This idea sounds great. I literally started last November and trying to get into the game was a crazy experience. The tutorial teaches you that you kill towers and kill the nexus. Great... It literally tells you nothing about anything else that's important in this game. I followed the recommended builds a long time without knowing why certain champs build those items. I didn't know I could buy components for items. I didn't know what the jungle did or dragon or baron (or vilemaw and the alters).

I learned the importance of CSing, warding, what items to rush, positioning in fights, who to focus in teamfights, and itemizing to counter the enemy. I eventually learned to play with my camera unlocked after having it locked so many months. I'm learning about watching the mini map while CSing and rotating to take/protect objectives.

I know I've greatly improved since I started but there is still probably a ton of things I could improve on. I went from bots to a normal game and the first 5 were full of people blaming each other for things they couldn't control, death threats, and a laundry list of other things so I stopped playing for a bit. Eventually a friend introduced me to ARAM and I learned more of the game through that since no one expected me to know my character inside and out and I was forced into champs I had never played before.

Unfortunately, it would probably have to be a custom or bot game though. I don't want a platinum in a bronze game even if he's just trying to help someone learn.
