Looking for opinions on my display adapter crashing
This will probably be kind of long, but i will keep it as organized as possible while providing info, if anyone more tech savvy than me can help(system specs with links will be at bottom for reference)(scroll down to the bolded area for the real question, the first half is a more detailed description of problem and what ive tried to fix it)
For a while now ive been having problems with my display adapter crashing and recovering, screen goes black for a few seconds and comes back, sometimes kicks me out of game, happens in all games which use 3d graphics, so far the games i can think of are far cry 3, battlefield 3, day z, league, skyrim, bioshock and dark souls, but videos and 2d games like terraria are fine... the problem is the display adapter stopped responding and has recovered is a very general generic message that can mean just about anything
I have tried tons of different fixes for it, including but not limited to... -made sure they werent overheating -rolling back drivers to a much earlier driver and using beta drivers for my card (running DDU to fully clean on all occasions) -Running registry cleaners -everything on the microsoft help article (including changing the tdr to 8 seconds) -both over and underclocking the gpu slightly -reseating gpu -Changing 3d settings in catalyst either as low as possible or setting to be determined by program -adjusting monitor settings(refresh rate, color settings and i heard the aero theme can cause it so i changed that too) -uninstalling google chrome(stupid but ive heard people saying that one can cause too) -multiple other miscellaneous fixes i read about online, cant remember all of them -raising the power limit on the gpu in increments up to about 8% via catalyst control center(this one showed the most improvement if you could say that.. instead of the display adapter crashing it would run fine for a longer period of time, then the computer would blue screen)
Im fairly certain its not an error with gpu or cpu since they are both fairly new parts and this happened shortly after upgrade, and its a common issue with the r9 2xx series radeon cards from what i can tell, but the PSU is fairly old, recycled from my old rig, which was much less power intensive, and it is a very poor rated PSU so
The real question i have to ask is if someone can look at my system specs and tell me if they think it is a weak psu causing crashes my system specs with links to their tigerdirect/newegg pages for the parts specs are mobo- asus m5a97 r2.0 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7587071&SRCCODE=TDGOODLI&gclid=CJy1qLKL8cICFcKPMgodEzQAGQ&gclsrc=aw.ds cpu(stock fan)- amd fx-6350 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8065332&CatId=7339 gpu- HIS r9 270-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161449&cm_re=his_r9_270-_-14-161-449-_-Product RAM- g.skill ripjaws series 4gb 1333 ddr3 ram- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231274 Hard drive- seagate barracuda 500gb- http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1083959 Power supply- saved for last since im fairly certain this is the issue... its a thermaltake TR2 600w- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153166
unfortunately i dont know enough about PSUs to definitively tell that it is causing the issue, but between the reviews and the issue of the fact that its not even 80+ efficiency makes me believe it is
if you guys need any other info like the peripherals i have plugged in let me know and thank you very much in advance if you take the time to read and help me
