DotA 2 just had truly massive patch

One that is basically going to change the game for years to come.

Think that the last single patch that affected League in a similar magnitude was 1.0.0.152, the patch that marked the transit from Season 2 to Pre-Season 3. The effects of that patch are still felt in today's game, especially in regard to the relative scaling of offensive and defensive stats, the relative strengthening of the support role (support is no longer buy 2 gold items and ALL the vision in any meaningful setting) and the importance of more team-focused play.

See for yourself: http://dota2.gamepedia.com/Version_7.00

Some highlights:

  • Talent system: With that, you need to know that, in DotA, champions can level to 25, with 10 level-ups previously being usable to get a +2 on all abilities (STR, AGI, INT) in addition to 12 ranks in 3 basic skills and 3 in 1 ultimate skill (for most). With the new talents, each hero gets to pick one of two mutually exclusive stat or ability benefits at levels 10, 15, 20 and 25. From the looks of things, getting all 4 talent points essentially amounts to getting another, champion-specific item, but the ability to purchase the bonus +2 on all abilities was removed, making room for the more focused power of the talents.
  • A Backpack: Basically three additional inventory slots you can put stuff into. The caveat is that items in that backpack do not grant passive stats nor can they be used for active effects, and swapping them from backpack to main inventory makes the item remain disabled for 6 seconds (so no in-combat swapping!), except when near a shop. Nifty little addition, isn't it - and wouldn't blame Riot for copycatting if they introduced something similar (Ward space in the late game, hurra! Supports could swap out their Sight Stone if all charges are spent!)
  • Complete XP rebalancing: A lot of XP-related stuff has been rebalanced. For example, total EXP to reach max level is down by about 15%, and the same EXP that allowed you to reach level 11/16 before now gets you to 12/18 (the new levels for rank 2/3 ults, due to talents). Also, an artificial leveling slowdown from levels 6-12, mainly by making level 11 cost almost quadruple the EXP that getting to 10 took, has been removed. This EXP change should have a lot of ramifications in the months to come - fiddling with the resource streams has the potential to completely change around how a game is played. For example, if such a change to EXP was implemented in League, you'd see a rise of Juggernauts - the class with the highest base stats per level.
  • Major map changes - new Roshan (Baron) position, completely reworked jungles...
  • A lot of mechanical elements of the game were fiddled with.

I am really interested how this is going to change the game for DotA. Being a brother MoBa to League, it will be quite exciting to see what kind of changes affect what kind of characters, and how both games could learn from each other.
