Summoner Name Origins (How did you come up with yours?)

bladecutter25·1/14/2016, 3:42:07 AM·4 votes·1,982 views

I've seen some pretty interesting Summoner Names since I started to play LOL over two years ago and often wonder how people come up with them. I was curious if anyone wanted to share their reasoning behind their names.

When it comes to my name, it started when I wanted to play an online game called Adventure Quest (but I haven't played it or any associated games in years) and my middle schooler brain thought 'Bladecutter' sounded cool. It turns out the name was already taken so I added 25 on the end so I could still keep the name I wanted. Since then, it's become my go to online name as it's easy to keep track of only one name.

When I started playing this game I played on my laptop and had no access to a mouse. So I played the game on a touchpad. I was pretty awful starting out but we all were and in time I got the hang of the game.

After about a year after joining the game I was talking to a friend who I met on league about how I played the game on a track pad and he remarked "Wow, you must be some touchpad legend or something." At that time there was a sale going on for renaming your account. I figured this would be a good opportunity to make the name change since my old name was extremely immature and I wanted a moniker that actually meant something to me about how I played the game.

I looked up if Touchpad Legend was available and it was not. It took a few more tries to find out that Touchpad Expert was available and I made the move to rename myself and am satisfied with my new name. I now have access to a mouse but I still prefer to play league on my touchpad as I have gotten very comfortable using it now.

Taric the Gay1/14/2016, 3:59:32 AM4 votes

I only play Taric. Whenever I play as Taric people always taunt me in all chat "WATCH OUT FOR TARIC THE GAY!" so I just decided to turn a negative into a positive and have been bedazzling ballsacks across the rift ever since.

VesperNadal1/14/2016, 1:17:06 PM2 votes

My name has two parts. Vesper is the name of an adult beverage concocted by James Bond. It is also the name of a pole arm weapon used in Final Fantasy Advance Tactics. Nadal is the last name of a very famous Tennis player. Both words mean something to me and I like the way both words sounded and just decided to combine the two into my username. I have no need for a rename, I got it right the first time.

Also numbers are lame. I find that if you need to add numbers into your username you just aren't creative enough or just were too lazy to find a decent username.

Back in the day when the Lord of the Rings movies had first come out I was making an xbox live gamertag and decided to use Raith as the first part of it, because of the nazgul or ring wraiths, thought it looked better without the W though, the second part I got later from my favorite Batman villain Ra's al Ghul

But Im Nunu1/14/2016, 4:03:38 AM1 votes

Okay....I've changed my name quite a few times now...I got this account a really, really long time ago (I don't even remember when). I don't remember my original name. But I stopped playing for a time. When I got back, my name was changed to a bunched of 1) random letters and numbers. Probably a big patch or something while I wasn't playing. Good thing Riot gave me a free name change at the time. I changed it to 2) Aether Erebus. If you know your mythology, two deity, one's light the other's darkness (should've kept that until the release of kindred and be a kindred main huh xD). Then, I have this friend with the name of "im nunu". Just for kicks and giggles (and because I got the IP for it) I changed it to 3) But Im Nunu. Funnily enough, another friend of mine changed his to "No But Im Nunu" and soon after that my brother changed his summoner's name to "Da Real Nunu". We almost had a full team of Nunu's xD

I wondered what would happen if a smeagol and a dwarf got it on.

Shadow Savage1/14/2016, 6:07:24 AM1 votes

I've always wanted to be a zed main. I like to play assassins, and I like leaping from the shadows and bringing swift death. I wanted something that sounded fearsome and would reflect my love of zed. I settled on Shadow Savage.

DrCyanide1/14/2016, 6:14:59 AM1 votes

I had been unsatisfied with my prior user name for a while but lacked anything better. I went to a local concert with the woman who became my wife, and I thought I heard some portion of the lyrics sing out "Doctor Cyanide". I asked if she heard it that and she hadn't. I liked the opposing nature of a person that saves lives and something that kills, and a few days/weeks later when I was introduced to League I took it as my username.

ModWuks1/14/2016, 6:21:12 AM1 votes

My summoner name used to be "SilverEagles", and that's mainly because "GoldenEagles" was already taken; Gold Eagles were the mascot of a university I went to basketball camp at when I was a kid. I then changed my summoner name to Instaban because I thought it was a funny name and pretty much represented my favorite champion at the time, Kayle.

Now I'm Wuks, named after MonkeyKing :)

Mr Vulcanator1/14/2016, 1:22:08 PM1 votes

I was trying to come up with a name for my YouTube channel and this was back when the LEGO Bionicle Glatorian comics first started and I liked the name of the "Vulcanus" village so I messed with that in my head for a while and got "Mr. Vulcanator". Now I use it for literally everything.

99ProbsManaNot11/14/2016, 1:24:01 PM1 votes

Jay-z made a song titled "99 problems" where I derived my username from. If they allowed me to put in more than 16 characters my username would be "I got 99 problems but mana ain't one." I only play manaless champions if that wasn't blatantly obvious.

Bunny Bells1/14/2016, 3:50:31 PM1 votes

Used to be JingledBells Got nicknamed 'Jack Rabbit' in airsoft for speed and maneuverability.
Took lead in airsoft. Called Rabbit Commander. Didn't like it. Proposed Commander Bunny. Concatenate C. Bunny + Jingledbells Bunny Bells

Catastrop1/14/2016, 4:01:11 PM1 votes

I love FF3 and I'm a big fan of Summoners. In FF3, the Espers had different names than the standard, my favourite is Catastro. Now, when I made this account, it was pretty late in the night and I was really sleepy. So when I typed that final 'o' my finger slipped and hit 'p' as well, I hadn't noticed until the name was saved and that point, I couldn't bring my self to care. To this day however, no idea how I'd like to pronounce it.

xSleepy1/14/2016, 4:18:52 PM1 votes

I actually just changed to this ign recently, i was on skype with a couple guys and a guy sighed/yawned with his throat, resulting in a something that sounded to me like a "sleepy chewbacca," and everyone got a kick out of my comment, so i changed my name (i was looking for a new name anyway)

My name is an antithesis of someone named "EzSkillshot". The guy use to have an ego. After changing my name to this, it stuck.

1374341/14/2016, 5:02:55 PM1 votes

1 through 137433 were already taken (jk, but that is what I tell people when they ask me in game).

The reality is everything I wanted was already taken (and this was 4.5 years ago, can't imagine now...) so I got frustrated and just randomly put in some numbers.

Ventura: English Translation of VENTURA

1 : fortune, luck, chance 2 : happiness 3 a la ventura : at random, as it comes

More of 1 and 2 but a little of 3 cause I am very random, so I though it fit my personality! I'm not very lucky but I figured having a name symbolizing luck would help out, and I try to be very happy if I can!

Poro: I love poros more than life.

BladeSteel1/15/2016, 6:53:03 AM1 votes

Blade was the name of a laser tag "gun/armor" set that I used and completely destroyed everyone (had about 6000 points above everyone else playing) So It became my "gamer name". However Blade was usually already taken, so I Decided to make it Bladesteel. My other Account is Leafsteel (Blade in spanish is Oja, and leaf is as well (I am fluent in spanish)). Made another account b/c I thought I lost my first one b/c my email for it got deleted and I forgot the password. But I found it and so now I have both accounts.

Niyumi1/14/2016, 3:51:56 AM1 votes

Well, I grew up on Nintendo games, and absolutely love Zelda. So, in Zelda, you know the three goddesses, Din, Farore and Nayru, right? So, Farore has always been my favorite, because every character representing her is always happy and silly, and I like what she stands for as a goddess. So, in Phantom Hourglass, Ciela is the fairy that represents Farore and follows Link around, but her name looks funny to me. So I looked up alternative spellings, and the Italians actually spell it Sciela (See-A-Luh), which I think looks so much better.

So, basically, I'm a Zelda fanboy and it's a Zelda name. :P

Tahlie is my other go-to name, and is based off of Tattle and Tael (more fairies) (don't ask me how it is, it just is), Taeli is also another name of mine, same idea. Then I have names like Eachtra (A-Ach-Truh) (Gaelic for "adventure"), Aislynn (Ash-Linn) (just a pretty Irish name), and so on.

Though, I want to come up with my own names. >.> But I'm not very imaginative by any means, so it's hard for me.

Anyway, more than just my League name, but there you go. ^^

Swerzz1/14/2016, 3:55:23 AM1 votes

Mine's just and abbreviation of my name. Wish i had a cool story for mine.

I enjoy the Umineko series, but I felt that "Endless and Golden Sorcerer" would be too long.

LaoBushido1/14/2016, 3:58:45 AM1 votes

Lao is a shorten version on my name that was easier for some of my none English as a first language friends to say than my real name, and bushido has to do with my affinity for sword work I did some kendo as a kid and fencing in college.
