Want something you know is good? Go to your favorite gaming computer site (alienware, tigerdirect, ibuypower etc.), use their site to build a PC that looks good to you, then go shop for the parts (I like newegg for that) and build it yourself.
I don't suggest getting a gaming laptop. Sure, of course it is convenient if you have a mobile lifestyle, but when it starts getting old, you have to replace the whole thing at once while with a desktop you can replace what you need when you need (usually GPU, and later the CPU/mobo).
The key to building a good PC is getting the best compatible parts for the best price. Shop around, read lots of reviews, and see if the newest model isn't about to release.
Building your own computer is very easy, but can be a bit confusing the first time. There are plenty of videos on youtube about the whole process.
