How did you find you main ?

Hello . Recently a friend asked me who my main was and I was not really sure how to answer him . I've been playing league for roughly 3 (4 close to 5 if we count previous accounts) and I have never had a champ I wanted to learn everything about though I've had champs I've said I mained yet got burnt out on them fast . So I wanted to know what the community's mains are why they main him/her/them(Kindred) , whats good and bad about the champ and if there is a diffrence between a person that has played 10 games with the champ and a person that has played 100 and obviously how you found out they are your main .

went to op.gg, looked at the lowest winrate/playrate champs at the time and rolled some dice

I looked at gameplay I enjoyed vs what I didn't like. So Heimerdinger is a natural pick for me.

I like pets. They create an adaptable layer of offense/defense. Usually the idea is that you don't have to directly engage, which gives the tactical edge over when and where you do engage. Rockets are a long-range poke/spread, which is just a bread-and-butter mage nuke that I also enjoy. It's about zone control. This makes Heimerdinger more a tactical champ rather than a brute-force champ. He wins by intelligent usage of his tools rather than a direct approach. Tricking your enemies to overstep is really a big thing here.

Other pet champs appeal to me, but not quite as much since the engagement is still heavily direct. Your reliance in those champs, like Zyra pits the core of the design as something you less control and more luck out on.

Lately I can say I've played more ARAMs and supports than Heimer, but I can play a mean Heimer all the same.

If I had a secondary champ, Shaco is equally on footing because of the trickery, but lacks the stability of area control that Heimer has. The traps are a functional part of the gameplay in Shaco that I use to trick or control an area (usually pre-rigged in my case so the enemy finds traps in multiple directions).

My main is Eve Evelynn

The reason I decided to main her (Like other champs in the past) was after a few matches when playing against an Eve player my team was destroyed. Nothing better then envy to get the juices flowing! LOL So after being owned by a specific champ it makes me interested in trying them out.

3 things I use to determine who will be my main (Or my next main) And what I would suggest you ask yourself if you want to find out who "is" your main. Keep in mind that "main" doesn't mean total mastery points either. You can have a champ with a lot of mastery points but maybe you haven't played them in a year.

A) Do I find the champ fun to play? Mechanics, abilities, etc B) Is it a champ that I can actually play and do well with? Some champs (regardless of difficulty) may suit your play style more then others. C) Do I feel that this champion is one that can make a true impact to the game in my role when I am picking them in a team comp.

Zyra

I was just bored one day and on youtube watching champion spotlights when I saw Zyra's. I became instantly intrigued due to her having all my favorite qualities in a video game character, she uses magic, plant magic to be specific, can summon pets to do stuff for her, and plays support. She was just an instant match for me.

Well, My previous main was Irelia. I found her because one game, an enemy top laner picked her. This was at the start of my top lane career, and that Irelia was awesome. So I looked at her kit and said "Why not? Might be fun." Now I have over 70,000 mastery points with Irelia, and even though she's a former main (I never could really get the rework on her passive, it may seem like a small thing but it's a big difference), she has the most mastery points of every camp I own to date by about 30,000 to 25,000 points. This includes my Mastery 6 Trundle and Yorick. Right now, I'm still looking for someone to hardcore main. I started playing Jayce, but he's actually pretty situational as a pick, and really easy to counterpick since Kayle, a huge counter, is only 450 IP (I think). I've tried Trundle, who I mained for a good long while) and Yorick (who I had gotten to mastery 4 after the full VGU rework was announced and before it was implemented) and old Yorick was fun, but new Yorick is still fun and is also much more relevant and easier to use (though RIP yorick's old ult - I loved that thing). I've also mained Poppy, Draven, Kindred, Nautilus (mainly sup), Aatrox, and I'm currently looking into maining Camille or Kled. But really, finding a main is about finding the playstyle you enjoy most. For me, that was old Irelia, back when she was a very rare pick and could actually go AS builds and not AD Burst. And, then, looking at champ impact is good if you want a main you can take to ranked (like most people), so certain champs that might be irrelevant you might want to pass up on. That being said, some of those champs aren't actually irrelevant, and discovering a rare, unused, strong champ has always been one of my favorite things to do.

Taric

Someone new to the champ can't get the timings right, and the more you play the more you can do. Similarly with Thresh :3

RekSai : when I saw her abilities on PBE I was like this champ is made for me. I was a noob back then, I had a lot of problems with mana. Plus, I was a jungle main. Trundle and Nasus : tanky characters somewhat mobile who have amazing sustain and can still pull off a fuckton of damage

In every game I have played I have always preferred a supportive type role. Most of the time I end up playing a healer or a tank. This narrowed down the champion pool quite a bit for me. Then I found Taric who is both a healer and a tank so I tried him out and really enjoyed him.

You asked for it so here you go.

Pros:

  1. Super strong late game
  2. wins team fights by pressing R at the perfect time
  3. scales on armor so you can do a good amount of damage even with no damage items
  4. One of the few supports who can actually do things on his own like solo dragon and kill towers
  5. AOE heal that can permanently apply windspeaker's blessing and ardent censer buffs to his entire team
  6. Even though you are technically a tank support, you can still help your team from a distance with W link, even when you are near death.

Cons:

  1. Hard to master
  2. Extremely mana starved (big reason he is hard to master)
  3. His Q mana cost is just stupid (140 mana for 60-180 base heal on about a 3 second cooldown, see above point)
  4. Stun is easily dodged by mobile champions
  5. Ult is easily wasted if not timed properly
  6. Needs to stay close to use his passive which is the most important part of his kit so he is susceptible to kiting

While Taric does have a fairly simple kit, I think it would take more than 100 games to actually master him. Between this account and a smurf account I have about 350k mastery on him and I am still improving with my mechanics on his W link and stun. There are also things you learn to do as you play him for a while like aiming your stun to the side on purpose then flashing into the enemy to stun multiple people rather than aiming it towards the enemy to begin with and only stun 1 person.

I've played a lot of games over the years and eventually settled down on a pool of champions I enjoy playing, who suit my play-style and who are reliable picks.
