So how is Tryndamere better than Karma?

Before you comment, I'm referring to his Q's passive. Karma lost her passive because Riot said that it was poor gameplay to have someone who aimed at being on low health to do more damage. But Tryndamere still uses that mechanic. Doesn't that actually condone fighting while low?

Karma was never designed to be in the fight, she just kite backs while blowing her abilities.

Tryndamere has to get in, and his ult complements that. His entire kit is designed to be low health.

There are still a lot of kits that don't synergize with the passive, like kog'maw, mostly because they are old champions with little thought process.

You're talking about her passive from before her relaunch in 3.5? It's safe to say the game has changed a bit since then. I bet that passive would be just fine in the meta today.

The idea of a mage playing on the verge of low health does seem a little strange. A fighter makes a bit more sense because they tend to be in the heat of battle more often and tend to have more defense and sustain.

But again, I could see it being more acceptable today.

I think it's because of the drastic differences between her old and new kit. Her old kit made the passive somewhat interactive and useful since she was mid range at best. It allowed her to go in and out of fights and try and make use of it with her spells, which were AoE, making it impossible for her to miss. Now, seeing her as it is, Riot removed the passive only because she's now mostly a back line character. The passive, hypothetically, would make her even more oppressive with her new poke ability and empowered shield strength.
