Why is this community so toxic?

I was in a game today on simmoners rift... playing as Rek'Sai. It was like my third game. I was getting abused by a syndra, Poppy, Ezreal, and Thresh, because i was still learning my champ nd made a few mistakes.. What gives people the right to attack others in game? Shouldn't they be helping us get better?

Was it ranked? Honestly if your learning your hero for the first time in ranked that would be like the one pet peeve of mine where I can't even blame people for being toxic. Hell, I take a new champ into a bot game just to mess around and learn the last hit/attack animation or jungle clear but even if bots are too boring there is still normal to practice in also.

If it wasn't ranked I would just mute them.

Because you invest the upwards of 30 minutes into each match you play which gives people a significant attachment to each round, even if it is just a game or normal play. The effect is doubly so when you are playing ranked and the mistakes of another play/believed mistakes of another player potentially cause you to lose the game and thus fall in rank. It is mostly at low elos that you run into such.

Once you climb high enough, the toxicity fades out because they realize that being toxic isn't worth losing everything.

It's not just league, I'm a top tier starcraft player and its exactly the same. Play competitive, COD, CSGO, TF2, DOTA, and you will notice that they are all toxic. The only difference is that Riot is the only one that tries to do something about it and fails miserably and imo actually makes things worse by constantly catering to the extremely sensitive individuals that play this game.
