The Troll Problem - In Honor of John Nash
In honor of the late John Nash, I created a Nash Equilibrium calculator for how to manage trolls in game :). I set the parameters in such a way that I would hope the game worked where pick order does matter, and assuming in the long run you have a 1/5 chance of being any of the roles, everyone is on equal footing and will have to carry their weight in all the roles. However, notice that it is also currently calibrated in such a way that trolling still exists :(((. The FP skill premium is the assumed premium on first pick being better at the preferred role than the second-mover and thus influences probability of success. Troll utility and preferred role utility are also inputs. Notice that changing these can cause the instance of trolling to occur only at Node A or Node B depending on what is chosen (the spreadsheet may look like garbage because I made it in 5 mins, but it is flexible with the inputs).
Anyway, food for thought the next time you think about trolling... WWJND?
Unfortunately I can't add .xls files... otherwise you could actually calculate the chance of seeing a troll in your next game (depending on how good you are at quantifying their utility of trolling and are honest with skill levels!!! haha)
